Jesus told the church to go into all the world; yet they remained comfortable in a thriving Jerusalem church. What Jesus told the church to do willingly (scatter, spread the message) had not been done. Sometimes God has to send trouble in order to get us to obey Him...
There is but one gospel—good news. Because it was delivered once-for-all by Christ Himself, there is no improvising, no compromising, no adding to it or subtract from it. There is only one way to heaven and that’s what irritates unbelievers so much. People want to think that they can live/believe any way they want to and still make it to heaven.
Joel's promise here could never be fulfilled in the OT. It was a radical, radical promise! To consider that God would pour out His Spirit on Gentiles and on women was unthinkable…
This promise was fulfilled in the NT, on the day of Pentecost. -- The message Peter preached on that first day of the church announced that there was a new way of relating to God from that point forward. This is the beauty of the Bible. Joel had no idea what he was prophesying about. But Peter, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, interprets this very moment.
