It is as vital as breathing that Christians hear from God. Now, God doesn't speak to us the same way He did to Abram; some people do dream, some have visions, but they are always word-pictures, or symbols, representing what God wants to say.

The question Paul addresses here to Timothy is regarding how a pastor should instruct those in his church to minister to slaves who were suddenly finding themselves free in Christ after receiving the gift of salvation!

In the early church, there were a group of men who devoted all their time to the work of the church. Likewise, today, there are men (like our pastors here) whose full-time work is committed to the church. This does not mean that a pastor who teaches the Bible should get paid twice the amount of everyone else. The idea here of double honor means the dual honor of respect and pay.
