There are lots of problems in Corinth yet, for Paul, the most important (priority) is division in the church.  It isn’t possible for humans to be together without there also being disagreement.  But disagreement doesn’t have to mean disunity. That’s why Paul makes this appeal in the name of the Lord Jesus.  Jesus Christ is the only Name big enough, great enough to appeal to for this kind of unity.  We must be unified in His Name, His love, and His Word…

I hope that most of you know by now that God always answers prayer.  It’s just that we don’t always get the answers we want!

This is a letter of correction.  It may even be called a letter of rebuke.  The church at Corinth was a church in distress.  Not only were there problems inside the church (problems Paul will deal with), the bigger problem was that this church’s problems had spilled out into the unbelieving community around them.  Instead of being salt and light, the Christians in Corinth were actually giving Christ a bad name!  They still got drunk, they continued to live in sexually immorality.  Like a lot of contemporary Christians today…
