[ Psalm 14:1 --- 1. The fool says in his heart, "There is no God." ]  There are a lot of really smart people who are fools; only a fool rejects God.  For emphasis, I want to point out that intellect and being a fool are not incompatible.  You can be both.

The theme of this psalm is the depravity of man.  The word 'fool' in Hebrew is nabal.  You'll remember that Nabal was the foolish, ungrateful husband of Abigail, who later became David's wife.  The term here is used for the morally deficient.  People who live immoral lives are described here…
