To understand the impact of verse 6, one has to come to grips with their own sin. If Jesus died instead of us, the necessary implication is that we would have to die for our own sin had He not done so. For the man/woman who says they are OK, that they can get to heaven without Jesus, is to refuse to acknowledge their own sinfulness… The reason—the main reason—that people don’t want to stop sinning. Whenever someone truly comes face-to-face with the ‘awfulness’ of their sin, they are grateful for the substitutionary death of Jesus! It is to admit that we actually need to be saved/rescued…
