Paul now speaks to the Spirit filled Christian husband about how to love His wife: Like Christ loves His Bride, the church:He gave Himself sacrificially, and so should we.His goal was her (the church's) purity. So should ours be.His reward was a glorious bride! So will ours be! If we love them, as He loves us!

Paul writes: "Wives, submit to your own husbands as to the Lord." This concept seems archaic and chauvinist in today's culture, but in fact, when this passage is rightly understood, along with the rest of chapter 5, it makes possible a marriage that's a picture of heaven, here on earth.

The Christian has been resurrected, supernaturally, and therefore is to walk supernaturally! The Christian walk is supposed to consistently 'defy gravity'. That can only happen as we give up other controlling factors and are filled to overflowing with His precious Holy Spirit.

Paul looks in the wardrobe of the Christian, sees sexual impurity, and says "This has got to go. This doesn't fit who you are now in Christ."

Paul exhorts the Christian, in light of God's goodness, to put off filthy language, and put on language that builds up:Eph 4: 29 Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers. 30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.

Paul' previous theme, Put off the filthy rags of the old man.Put on the new man's righteous robes, that Jesus secured for you. Now, He continues with specifics:Put off lying, put ont the truthPut off sinful anger, put on the pursuit of peacePut off stealing, and free loading. Put on hard work for free giving.

Paul continues: "Therefore, Christian, because of God's great mercies toward you. Walk DIFFERENTLY than the world around you. Differently than you used to:Quit Walking like you walked before you knew Jesus.Sit at Jesus' feet. Let Him teach you personallyPut off the old man, the old you.And put on the new man, Jesus in you.
