Synopsis: Jacob procrastinated sending all his sons to Egypt to buy food and thus restrained good God intended to do for him and his household through Joseph's rule. The passage illustrates how on our own God's people can remain isolated by fear and suspicion, falling short of the righteousness, peace and joy that is can be ours today by faith abd obedience to Jesus.

Synopsis: The sons of Jacob returned to their father after they bought grain from Egypt--only to find their money was restored in their sacks of grain. Though Jacob feared God, he was afraid and only considered risks of what he stood to lose rather than rest in the God who promised to make of him a great nation and provided for all his needs. The things that seem against Christians are actually for us because God is able to make them work together for good.

Synopsis: God brought Joseph out of prison and into Pharaoh's palace as second ruler in all Egypt. In knowing and trusting God, Joseph was guided in wisdom to prepare during years of plenty for a prolonged severe famine. Knowing God and that He has spoken, Christians are called to hear the word of God in truth by taking it to heart and doing whatever He says.

Synopsis: Pharaoh had two troubling dreams all the magicians and dream experts in Egypt were unable to interpret. After he was recommended by the chief butler, Joseph was brought before Pharaoh and gave him an answer of peace from God--though the king's request was beyond his own ability. Joseph had learned to trust and rely upon the almighty God Who is our peace, a good example for all to follow.

After Joseph was sold as a slave, he was a successful and prosperous slave in Potiphar's house because the LORD was with him. He was harassed and tempted by Potiphar's wife, yet Joseph refused to do great wickedness before God. The LORD showed mercy and favour to Joseph when he was unjustly imprisoned, yet found prosperity and rest because God was with him.

It is a small thing to point out the faults of others, but the wise will follow God's prompting to confess and forsake their own sin.
