As God spoke through Jeremiah and the Law, the destruction of Jerusalem came to pass as a judgment for sin. King Zedekiah could not escape his pursuers who bound and blinded him, yet the word of God came to Jeremiah while he was in the court of the prison with words of comfort for Ebed-Melech because he trusted in God. Synopsis: As the siege of Jerusalem continued, the princes of Jerusalem received permission from the king to kill the prophet, whom they lowered into a muddy cistern. Ebed-Melech heard the news and went to his king who commanded him to take men and pull Jeremiah to safety. The fear of man caused Zedekiah to be like a man whose feet were stuck in mud. Only God whom we trust and obey delivers us from all our fears.
