Giving to the Lord and good deeds done for others should be done, said Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount, but only for the right reasons ... to glorify God. Pastor Gary Barrow's message was recorded at Calvary Chapel of Truckee on Sunday, July 12, 2020.

Have you ever been fearful that God won't deliver on His promises in time when calamity seems imminent? Ever decide to help God out yourself by going beyond or around His will? That's exactly what Abram does in Genesis Chapter 12. Spoiler alert: not trusting God won't work any better for us than it did for Abram when he hightailed it to Egypt to escape a famine. ... uh oh, sounds like trouble! Pastor Gary Barrow's verse-by-verse study of Genesis chapter 12, recorded during the Thursday Thru-the-Bible Midweek eService on July 9, 2020, at Calvary Chapel of Truckee.

What do rainbows, vineyards and capital punishment have to do with each other? Well, they're all discussed in Pastor Gary's study of Genesis chapter 9. After Noah and his family disembark from the ark after more than a year on board, God makes a covenant with Noah, and Noah prophesies a cursed future for the descendants of Ham, one of Noah's three sons. Even so, God provides a way of salvation for the descendants of Ham ... the same way He offers to us today, through a new covenant in His own Son's blood.

In Jesus' Sermon on the Mount, he clearly teaches about God's position on divorce. During Calvary Chapel's Sunday, June 21st service, Pastor Gary explains when divorce is Biblically permissible for a Christian, and how important Biblical marriage was and is to Jesus today.

If you think sheltering in place during the COVID pandemic has been difficult, picture what it was like for Noah and his family who sheltered in place on the ark for 377 days with a gigantic menagerie of animals and other creeping things! It's safe to say they were more than ready to leave the ark behind and walk again on dry ground. Study Genesis 8 with Pastor Gary to find out more.

Pastor Gary continues his verse-by-verse study of the Gospel of Matthew and his look at the Sermon on the Mount with this teaching of Matthew 5:27-29: "A Higher Standard"

“You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not commit adultery. But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart. If your right eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell. And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell."
