We are ordinary people invited to live out an extraordinary calling, but this call comes at a cost. When Jesus called a group of teenage fisherman to follow Him it was not simply a change in their career, it was an adjustment to the trajectory of their lives.

Calvary's Easter weekend message.

We all have hopes and fears. Many of the things we hope in can lead to our greatest disappointments. The psalmists longed for the King who would come and set all things right.

Praise lifts our eyes to God. Proper view of God. In Hebrew, hallelu means “praise”, but it’s a command and an invitation to praise.

Gratitude can enlarge our hearts and further our trust in God. When we acknowledge His ways and all that He has accomplished it can have a profound impact on us even when we find ourselves in the valleys of life.

To repent is to change one’s mind and reorient ourselves in a different direction. Many of us drift over time and find that we are on a path of our own making. Repentance turns our hearts and minds back toward God, that once again we may find ourselves following Him.

When we recognize and own our failings we break their hold on us. When we confess to God, we are admitting our great need for Him.

Holiness in the midst of anger and injustice? Anger can be crippling if left unchecked. David was not afraid to voice his anger and in so doing was able to hand his anger over to God and entrust it to God. In doing this, David modeled what it looks like for us not to be held captive to our emotions, and anger in particular.

Lament and airing our grief is important to our human experience.  Learning to give voice to our soul even in the midst of doubt, pain, and sorrow can be a powerful way to allow God to reshape us and heal us.

As we follow God we begin to align all areas of our life to Him. This often does not happen all at once, but is a process of giving more and more of our lives to Him. Over the next 8 weeks we are going to allow the book of Psalms to guide our prayers and shape our lives.
