In this sermon, we look at Matthew 7:24-29. We learn that rain, water, and wind will come to us – just like in the story, there are troubles that come up in our lives suddenly. We see that we need to both hear and act on the teachings of our teacher, Jesus. When we do so, we’ll have a house that is built on a firm foundation and withstand’s life storms.

In this message, we learn about the narrow road, which represents the path of following Jesus. We are reminded that though sometimes the narrow road may feel lonely, be less traveled and require sacrifice, God provides abundant life and agency for those who are faithful to stay on the narrow road. We are challenged to look at how we can follow the narrow road in our lives.

In Matthew 7, we hear Jesus encourage us to ask, seek, and knock in prayer. For when we do we will receive, we will find, and the door will be opened to us, the children of God. We are reminded that God is our good Father who desires to give his children good gifts. We are also reminded and challenged as Jesus gives us the Golden Rule, that we should treat others the way that we would wish to be treated.

In this week’s sermon we learn we are not to judge others. Pastor Jim shares two types of judging Jesus could be talking about here. We learn who is allowed to judge and who is not allowed to judge and were given some examples of this. We were then given two warnings for when we are supposed to judge others. Lastly, we were given an assignment if we have judged others unfairly or if we need to speak the truth in love to someone around us.

In this message, Pastor Jim shares how we ought to pray and fast as an act of worship, pleasing to God. We learn that this passage of Scripture calls us to close out the world, open up the door to God, and bring God and others into the action when we pray. We were also given a practical step of fasting to put this into action in the week ahead.
