Why Should I Be Water Baptized?

1.       Baptism is about going public

2.       Baptism is a discipleship and obedience issue

Matthew 28:19-20 (NLT) 19Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. 20Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

What is a Made Disciple?

1)    Someone shared the gospel with you

2)    God gave you faith to believe and you repented of your sins to God

3)    Because of the gift of faith, you confess with your mouth Jesus as being your Lord and Savior

4)    You are water baptized when you have opportunity

5)    You have a heart to obey

6)    You become a responsible member of a local church body under spiritual covering

3.       Baptism comes after salvation 

Acts 2:38 (NLT) 38Peter replied, “Each of you must repent of your sins, turn to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ to show that you have received forgiveness for your sins. Then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

In this teaching we’ll learn that Paul speaks to the Corinthian Christians from his heart because he has felt uncommon sympathy towards them, 2 Corinthians 6:11-18

2 Corinthians 6:11-18 (NLT) 11Oh, dear Corinthian friends! We have spoken honestly with you, and our hearts are open to you. 12There is no lack of love on our part, but you have withheld your love from us. 13I am asking you to respond as if you were my own children. Open your hearts to us!

14Don’t team up with those who are unbelievers. How can righteousness be a partner with wickedness? How can light live with darkness? 15What harmony can there be between Christ and the devil? How can a believer be a partner with an unbeliever? 16And what union can there be between God’s temple and idols? For we are the temple of the living God. As God said: “I will live in them and walk among them. I will be their God, and they will be my people. 17Therefore, come out from among unbelievers, and separate yourselves from them, says the LORD. Don’t touch their filthy things, and I will welcome you. 18And I will be your Father, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the LORD Almighty.”

Main Idea:  John concludes the book of Revelation speaking about two very real places, Heaven and Hell.  Why do we need to know about them?

Homework Assignment:  If someone asked you: “How can I make sure that heaven is my home when this life is over?”  What should you tell them?
