- Jesus gives Peter, specifically the keys to the kingdom and then the ability to "bind" and "loose." In this study, we look at the Greek grammar in these phrases, and the quite a bit of cross-referencing to understand what Jesus is saying. We closed with looking at the two most prevalent misunderstandings of Jesus' words.

- We have really slowed down in this section of Matthew 16 to really capture Jesus' words to the disciples about the church. In this study, we look at verse 18, and how the gates of Hades won't overpower the church.

- The Pharisees and Sadducees approach Jesus and ask a second time for a sign from heaven. He refuses, and then turns and warns his disciples to 'watch out for the leaven of the Pharisees." They get the meaning of his words confused because they forgot to bring bread. In this study, we look at the yeast of the Pharisees, and what the Lord wants us to remember, and then what times we are living in.

- Our Bible Study picked up at the end of Matthew 15, where Jesus returns from Tyre and Sidon and spends 3 days on the side of a mountain overlooking the Sea of Galilee. Large crowds gather, and he heals the lame, the blind, the crippled and the mute. It's a real glimpse of heaven, when we will be with Jesus. At the end of the 3 days, Jesus again, multiplies loaves and fishes to feed four thousand people including women and children.

- We looked at the connections between the two stories that open Matthew 15. The first is a conversation between Jesus and Pharisees and scribes from Jerusalem about the tradition of ritual hand-washing. The second is a conversation between Jesus and a Canaanite woman with a demon-possessed daughter. The contrasts could not be more stark, both on the front end of the stories, and the outcome. At the center of it, is Jesus question to Peter: "Do you still not understand?"

- In Matthew 14, the action is driven by Jesus' emotions. First, it's his sadness that causes Him to withdraw from the crowds to a desolate place to be alone. Then, it's his compassion that causes him to minister to the crowds that followed Him. And, then, it's surprising to see how He draws out compassion and faith in the disciples.

- We continued in Matthew 13, where we left off in verse 53. Jesus heads back to his hometown and is rejected. From there, we went into the first part of chapter 14, where Matthew tells us about what happened to John the Baptist. These are sad stories, but they are part of the experience of being a disciple and are therefore instructive for us.

- In Matthew 13, Jesus leaves Capernaum and addresses the large crowds with parables. The disciples ask him about them, he interprets them, and tells them that they have been given the secrets to the kingdom. In this study, we look at the parables and their interpretation. It's interesting to consider why He used parables, and what they mean to us today. We also referenced the harvest, and the internet discussion about Revelation 12 and the constellation that will occur on September 23, 2017.
