The Lord has called every believer to live on mission, participating in making disciples. This includes making disciples across the globe. When the local church is mobilized to participate in global missions through prayer, encouragement, giving, and going onto the cross-cultural mission field, it creates a tremendous impact for the Gospel as followers of Christ walk in obedience to His will internationally.

n this world we are going to experience tribulation. We are likely to experience injustice, oppression, abuse and we are likely to be wronged by others and do wrong to others. This reality reveals our need for a Savior, and causes us to yearn for peace (wholeness) in this life and yearn for the life which is to come. Despite their status as patriarchs or the children of Israel they are not immune to this human condition, and this chapter puts a spotlight on this predicament. 

 Today, we see reconciliation between brothers Jacob and Esau, whose relationship was devastated by sin. We understand that, though we constantly sin against God, He is always faithful to forgive and reconcile. As we better understand the grace that God shows us, we better understand the benefits of living according to His plan.

Genesis 30 reveals the damage envy, rivalry, and manipulation cause within Jacob’s family but also reveals God’s covenant faithfulness to keep His promises despite human failure, reminding followers of Christ to trust God’s faithfulness and grace, rather than our own methods and motives in our families and relationships with others. 

Jacob, like king David and you and I, is a flawed moral character, however, God in His infinite grace, mercy, and magnificence is preparing Jacob to influence God’s redemptive plan as he learns to follow God, and is transformed to be more like Jesus. As result, Jacob’s life will have eternal significance, and the same is available for each of us. Let’s discover how.

One of the great catalysts for faith and growth in Christ is personal experience with God. Consider Paul on the Damascus Rd.
