Don't Throw In The Towel Just Yet! | Hebrews 12:1-2 | Kevin Broyhill

Jesus Is the eternal Son of God. He tolerated the abuses of the false teachers. He did not lie down and let them trample Him. He exposed their heresies. In our text He shows us the importance of teaching the truth to true believers in the presence of those who are opposed to the truth as well as to those who need to hear the truth.

The sermon emphasizes the biblical necessity of adhering strictly to Scripture regarding the two church ordinances, baptism and the Lord's Supper. It establishes that communion is exclusively for redeemed believers and functions as a corporate ordinance for the local church rather than an individual ritual. The preacher argues against modern consumerist or legalistic distortions by highlighting the context of 1 Corinthians 11, where Paul corrects divisions and selfishness within the gathering. Central to the message is the call to view the Lord's Supper as a solemn memorial of Christ's finished work on the cross, requiring deep reflection on His sacrifice rather than superficial participation. The ultimate intent is to direct believers' focus away from self and toward Jesus Christ, urging them to partake in a manner that honors His death until He returns.

When Christians partake of the Lord's Supper, they are to do so with knowledgeable faith; that is, there are things we are to know and believe. The gospel accounts inform our knowledge of what we are to fix our minds upon as we partake of the Lord's Supper. First, we should think about the cross and the peace we now have with God. Second, we should consider Christ's suffering and that he was motivated by love to endure the suffering of the cross.

Because God imparts life through His Word, even hurting Christians should continue to receive the ministry of the word with meekness.
