God needed to remind the nation of Israel of the successes that Moses and Joshua had, and the reason from those successes. It was essential for them to obey Him. He chose them to be leaders of His children. They were not self appointed, nor were to elected. True leaders are chosen of the Lord and need to be trained to do His will.

Christians are bought with a price. It was a high price. Jesus Christ left heaven's glory and became a a man, a servant obedient unto death. He shed His blood to provide salvation for lost humanity. He was rejected by most of His own people. He is still rejected by most of humanity today. Those who are saved are few. Those who are saved must understand they must be different. They will not fight against who God has made them. They will embrace that and desire to grow in the Lord.

How does one become a son of God. And now that we are sons of God there are responsibilities.

There is a tragedy here in this passage.Leadership sometimes fails and leaders make mistakes. There is a lot of responsibility on those in leadership. Leaders are targets for the devil.
