Broadly speaking, people can be sorted into two categories. The first type are people who come to church for the "life tips." People who think that the sermons can be useful on the margins, but ultimately their lives are doing just fine. Mary Magdalene is the second type of person, the kind who knows they've got baggage and problems and that life, frankly, is messy. It's always messy, almost by definition.  And that mess was her motivation - she never forgot how Jesus changed her life, and used that as fuel for her faith.  

Let's see if you can follow this: Jesus came to us from the line of King David, the one and only. But David's grandmother was Rahab, who was.... well, she came from a different walk of life, shall we say. Rahab was a pagan prostitute living in Jericho. But she listened when God called, and she didn't let her past get in the way of her future. Talk about a transformation story. 

Gideon was a nobody, the weakest man in the weakest tribe of Israel. But if we can learn to live as God wants, and serve as he asks, then just like Gideon, we can become superheroes for Christ
