Listen Later

[Sorry, no audio available for this lesson.]

  • The five points of Calvinism all depend on each other. They stand or fall together.
  • Irresistible grace: the belief that when God chooses someone to be saved, they cannot help but to come to Christ.
  • It is not a question of whether the Holy Spirit leads man to salvation, but how He does it.
    • He effects:
      • The new birth by the Word (I Peter 1:22; John 3:5)
      • Cleansing (John 17:17) and sanctification by the Word (I Corinthians 6:11)
      • Convicts man of sin by the Word (Titus 1:9)
      • Salvation by the Word (Titus 3:5)
        • John 8:32; 17:17
        • Indwells the Christian by the Word (Ephesians 3:17; Romans 10:17; Colossians 3:16)
          • II Timothy 1:14
          • Revelation 2:13; II John 1:2
          • Romans 1:16 – The gospel is God’s power to save.
          • The doctrine of irresistible grace falls because it is built on a faulty foundation and because it undermines the power of the gospel for salvation.
          • Acts 7:51; Hebrews 10:29-31 – Both these verses show the doctrine to be false.
