Job is a changed man. was it the speeches of God? Was it having his fortunes returned? Was it forgiving his friend? We grow in the struggle but only if we hold on to God.

Job had accused God of everything from making a mistake to divine mismanagement. He demanded hi day in God's court even though his friends told him God would not show up. They were wrong.

Then Job declares his agony, his three friends respond with speeches that begin trying to unsuccessfully comfort him and end with accusing him of being so guilty he is deserving of all suffering he is experiencing. Job refuses to accept their version of the truth and calls for God to come forward for Job's day in court.

Those who love Proverbs mistakenly believe that doing the right thing will always produce positive results. Unfortunately, bad things do happen to good people and the story of Job is a correction to that thinking.

James has three main concerns: what we say, how we treat those in distress, and what we allow in our our lives. He offers solutions but you cannot do them alone.

The conflicts we are having in our families, in our societies, and in our communities is a manifestation of the war going on within us. There is something we can do about that.

Our words matter. In the third sermon of our series on James, we look at how small things can influence our greater world.

James says we should show no partiality. Unfortunately, we still do in more ways than we realize.

We should read Scripture with a mirror to see ourselves as we are and as God sees us.
