In the latest CAMH podcast, we discuss a new national partnership between CAMH and Hudson’s Bay to promote mental health awareness for young Canadians across the country. Joining us to discuss this important initiative is Dr. Joanna Henderson, CAMH Senior Scientist and Director of the Margaret and Wallace McCain Centre for Child, Youth and Family Mental Health, CAMH Youth Engagement Coordinator Karleigh Darnay, and special guest Corey Hirsch, a former NHL goalie and Olympian who became a mental health advocate after going public with his experiences with mental illness. Corey will be telling his story about the importance of not suffering in silence to young Canadians across the country as part of this program.

A discussion of the past and present of the Rendezvous With Madness Festival, now in its 26th year, including a conversation with special guest Catherine MacLellan, an award-winning musician who is the subject of a documentary film The Song and the Sorrow that is being featured at the festival. MacLellan talks about her father Gene, also an award-winning musician, who died by suicide when she was 14-years-old. In a wide-ranging interview, she discusses the impact his death had on her and her career, and her desire to open up the conversation about mental health.

With special guests Dr. David Goldbloom and Dr. Juveria Zaheer, we cover a range of topics, from clinical best practices for suicide prevention, to guidelines for how suicide should be discussed in the public sphere (especially in the wake of high-profile suicides like that of Anthony Bourdain this summer), to the impact suicide has on those left behind.
