Before Tony Hawk became a household name, Christian Slater was skating his way through murder, mystery, and pure 1980s madness! 🛹🔥
This week, Camp Wayback Movie Night takes a trip back to 1989 for Gleaming the Cube, the cult classic that somehow combined skateboarding, conspiracy, action, and teenage rebellion into one gloriously bizarre cinematic experience!
Starring Christian Slater as Brian Kelly, a rebellious skateboarder whose world is turned upside down following the mysterious death of his adopted brother, Gleaming the Cube delivers everything you could want from a late-80s movie: questionable decisions, spectacular skateboarding, a surprisingly serious mystery, and enough glorious 80s attitude to fill an entire VHS rental shelf.
And did we mention the legendary Tony Hawk makes an appearance alongside some of the era's biggest skateboarding talents?
Join Mookie, Crawdaddy, and the Big Red Machine as we revisit this wonderfully strange piece of 80s nostalgia and ask the important questions:
🛹 Does Gleaming the Cube deserve more recognition as an underrated 80s cult classic?
🎬 Does Christian Slater carry this wild combination of skateboarding and murder mystery?
🔥 Are the skateboarding sequences better than the actual movie?
😂 And most importantly, does this movie still hold up nearly four decades later, or should we have left it on the video store shelf?
Expect plenty of laughs, questionable opinions, ridiculous tangents, and the kind of unapologetic 1980s nostalgia that makes Camp Wayback the place where growing up is strictly optional.
If you love 80s movies, forgotten cult classics, retro pop culture, or just three guys arguing about movies they probably watched way too many times growing up, you've found your people.

What if Michael Myers had TWO faces? What if the Shape went head-to-head with Pinhead from Hellraiser? Before Halloween H20 brought Laurie Strode back to face her murderous brother, the Halloween franchise was exploring some absolutely wild possibilities that could have changed horror history forever!
On this episode of Mookie’s Matinee at Camp Wayback, we're digging into two of the most fascinating unmade Halloween movies: Halloween 7: Two Faces of Evil and the proposed Halloween/Hellraiser crossover, often referred to as Helloween! From the bizarre possibility of two Michael Myers killers terrorizing Haddonfield to an unforgettable showdown between two of horror's biggest icons, we're breaking down the abandoned concepts, behind-the-scenes history, and creative decisions that kept these nightmares from reaching the big screen.
Would Halloween 7: Two Faces of Evil have been a better direction for the franchise than Halloween H20? Could Michael Myers and Pinhead have shared the screen without destroying everything that made their respective franchises legendary? And most importantly, did horror fans miss out on something incredible, or did we dodge two cinematic disasters?
Grab a seat by Rewind Lake and join Mookie, Crawdaddy, and the Big Red Machine as we resurrect the Halloween sequels that almost happened! Expect horror history, questionable creative decisions, plenty of laughs, and the usual Camp Wayback insanity.

What if you could jump into the Wayback Machine, travel straight back to the 1980s, and bring FIVE things home with you?
Tonight on Camp Wayback, we hand Crawdaddy the keys and give him one mission: pick 5 things from the ’80s he desperately wants back in the present day. Movies? Toys? Food? Technology? Questionable fashion choices? Nothing is off limits—and knowing Crawdaddy, neither is good judgment.
Will Mookie and the Big Red Machine agree with his picks, or will Crawdaddy lose his Wayback Machine privileges before the night is over?

Beauty, Brackets & Bad Decisions… what could possibly go wrong?
Camp Wayback is settling one of the most important debates nobody asked us to settle: Who is the ultimate Lady of the 80s? We’ve built the bracket, seeded 32 unforgettable women of the decade, and now Mookie, Crawdaddy, and The Big Red Machine have to somehow survive the tournament without destroying friendships along the way.
From horror icons and movie legends to pop-culture crushes who practically defined the decade, nobody is safe from elimination. Jamie Lee Curtis. Phoebe Cates. Sigourney Weaver. Heather Langenkamp. Kelly LeBrock. Elvira. Molly Ringwald. And plenty more enter the bracket—but only ONE can be crowned Camp Wayback’s ultimate Lady of the 80s.
There will be questionable logic. There will be arguments. There will absolutely be bad decisions.
🔥 Who would YOU crown the ultimate Lady of the 80s? Watch the tournament, then drop your winner—and the matchup we completely screwed up—in the comments.
Welcome back to Camp Wayback, where the movies were better, the hair was bigger, and apparently we’ve decided tournament brackets are worth losing friends over.

What if Halloween 5 and Halloween 6 had turned out COMPLETELY different? Believe it or not, the versions of these Michael Myers sequels that almost made it to the big screen might be even crazier than the movies we actually got!
In Episode 2 of Mookie’s Matinee, we're heading back to Camp Wayback for a DOUBLE FEATURE of abandoned ideas, bizarre storylines, and questionable creative decisions from the history of the Halloween franchise! From the infamous clown costume concepts surrounding Halloween 5 to the absolutely bonkers virtual reality storyline proposed for Halloween 6, we're digging into the sequels that almost were—and asking the important question: Who the hell thought some of these ideas were good?!
Pull up a lawn chair, crack open a cold one, and join Mookie, Crawdaddy, and the Big Red Machine as we revisit the roads not taken in Haddonfield. It's horror history, 80s and 90s nostalgia, questionable opinions, and plenty of laughs—the way we do things at Camp Wayback!

Fire up the semi, turn that hat backwards, and get ready to meet us OVER THE TOP! 💪🚛
This week at Camp Wayback, Mookie, Crawdaddy, and the Big Red Machine are heading back to 1987 for one of the most gloriously ’80s movies ever committed to film: Sylvester Stallone’s Over the Top. It’s got big rigs, bigger biceps, daddy issues, Kenny Loggins, and an arm-wrestling tournament treated with the intensity of the Super Bowl, WrestleMania, and Rocky IV combined.
But after all these years, does Over the Top still have the horsepower to cross the finish line—or is nostalgia doing some seriously heavy lifting?
Crack open your beverage of choice, turn your hat around, and grab a seat by Rewind Lake. Movie Night is officially underway at Camp Wayback, where the movies are questionable, the memories are undefeated, and somehow Mookie is still allowed to supervise the camp.
What’s your favorite moment from Over the Top? And where does it rank among Stallone’s ’80s classics? Drop a 5 star review, talk about it in the comments and join us at Camp Wayback!

Just when you thought it was safe to put the toys back in the box… WE FOUND ANOTHER ONE.
Mookie, Crawdaddy, and the Big Red Machine are back for Part 2 of Camp Wayback’s Ultimate ’80s Toy Rewind, because there was absolutely NO WAY we could cram an entire decade of plastic-fueled childhood obsession into one episode.
We’re heading even deeper into the toy aisles of the 1980s to remember the action figures, playsets, vehicles, cartoons, commercials, and completely ridiculous toys that somehow convinced an entire generation that we desperately needed EVERYTHING we saw on Saturday morning television.
We’re talking about the toys we loved, the ones our friends had that made us insanely jealous, the impossible-to-find figures, the massive playsets our parents refused to buy, and those long-lost treasures sitting in somebody’s attic right now that are probably worth more than our first cars.
But somewhere along the way, this becomes about more than toys.
It’s about walking into a Toys “R” Us and seeing an aisle that seemed to stretch forever. It’s about studying the Sears Wish Book like you were preparing for the SATs. It’s about birthdays, Christmas mornings, sleepovers, trading figures with your friends, and sitting on the bedroom floor creating adventures that existed nowhere except inside your imagination.
We’re going back there.
So dump the toy box onto the floor, grab your favorite action figure, and settle in around the campfire—because Mookie, Crawdaddy, and the Big Red Machine are taking one more trip down the greatest toy aisle of all time.
🔥 Welcome back to Camp Wayback—where growing older is mandatory, but growing up is completely optional.
Before Michael Myers returned in Halloween 4, there were other paths back to Haddonfield—and we’re opening the vault on the movies we almost got! Welcome to the debut of Mookie’s Matinee, the horror-centric side of Camp Wayback, where the nostalgia runs deep and the things lurking around camp aren’t always the counselors.
For our first screening, we’re exploring the unmade Halloween 4 concepts and alternate directions that could have changed Michael Myers’ legacy. We’re talking unrealized possibilities, missed opportunities, and the big question: could one of these versions have topped Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers? If you love the Halloween franchise, horror movie history, and debating the sequels that never reached the screen, pull up a chair. This matinee is for you.
🎃 Would you trade the Halloween 4 we got for one of these unmade versions? Tell us which one—and why—in the comments!
🎟️ Subscribe to Camp Wayback for more Mookie’s Matinee, horror discussions, and ’80s nostalgia. Grab your ticket, check behind your seat, and don’t wander back to your cabin alone.

What happens when three grown men with an unhealthy attachment to the 1980s are given an imaginary Hollywood budget, absolutely no adult supervision, and access to some of the greatest characters of the decade?
You get THE MASTER OF CRYSTAL LAKE.
This week around the Camp Wayback fire, Mookie, Crawdaddy, and the Big Red Machine are heading into the pitch meeting for the completely ridiculous ’80s crossover movie we never knew we needed.
Our story begins when Clark Griswold heads to Camp Crystal Lake with his unlikely young sidekick, Data from The Goonies, completely unaware that something far more powerful than Jason Voorhees has been hidden beneath those waters for centuries…
THE SWORD OF OMENS.
Guarding the secret is Crystal Lake’s telekinetic protector, Tina Shephard, who knows exactly what could happen if the sword falls into the wrong hands.
Unfortunately, the wrong hands are already on their way.
Enter Sho’Nuff—the Shogun of Harlem—who believes the Sword of Omens possesses enough supernatural power to restore his former glory and help him reclaim Harlem. And every great villain needs a sidekick, so naturally Sho’Nuff has recruited the loudest, meanest, most unpredictable mercenary imaginable:
The Iron Sheik.
And he brought the Heineken.
Clark Griswold. Data. Tina Shephard. Sho’Nuff. The Iron Sheik. The Sword of Omens. Camp Crystal Lake.
This should not work.
Somehow… it does.
Join us as we pitch The Master of Crystal Lake from the ground up—building the story, characters, action, comedy, villains, ridiculous set pieces, and everything else necessary to turn our Ultimate ’80s Movie Draft into the kind of gloriously insane VHS-era adventure you would have begged your parents to rent on a Friday night.
⚔️ One sword. Two armies. Three idiots pitching the movie.
🔥 Welcome back to Camp Wayback—where the fire is always burning, the ’80s never ended, and apparently Clark Griswold is now responsible for saving the universe.
This week, Camp Wayback is heading back to a time when Saturday morning cartoons were basically 30-minute toy commercials, Christmas catalogs were sacred texts, and nothing hurt worse than hearing the words “Put that back—we’re not buying anything today.”
Mookie, Crawdaddy, and the Big Red Machine are cracking open the toy box for Part 1 of our Ultimate ’80s Toy Rewind! We’re revisiting the action figures, vehicles, playsets, cartoons, commercials, and ridiculously awesome toy aisles that helped define our childhoods.
From He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, G.I. Joe and Transformers to the toys we begged for, the ones we actually owned, and the Holy Grails we’re still kicking ourselves for losing, we’re digging into what made growing up with toys in the 1980s feel so damn special.
But this isn’t just about plastic action figures. It’s about ripping open a brand-new toy on Christmas morning. Digging through the pegs looking for that ONE figure. Trading with your friends. Creating massive battles on the bedroom floor. And somehow turning a handful of toys into an entire universe before Mom yelled that dinner was ready.
So grab the Sears Wish Book, pour yourself a bowl of sugary cereal, and meet us back in the toy aisle.
🔥 Welcome to Camp Wayback—where the campfire is burning, the nostalgia is real, and we absolutely should have kept those toys in the box.
And this is only Part 1…
From the publisher's feed
The past isn’t dead. It’s just been waiting for us to come back.
Welcome to Camp Wayback — the podcast where three lifelong friends punch…
This isn’t a history lesson. It’s a campfire conversation.
Every episode, we head back to a time when Friday night meant wandering the video store, Saturday morning meant cartoons, action figures ruled the toy aisle, movie stars felt larger than life, and discovering something awesome usually came from a friend saying, “Dude…you HAVE to see this.”
We’ll revisit the movies we wore out on VHS. The toys we begged our parents for. The characters we wanted to be. The songs we still know every word to. The forgotten gems we refuse to let die. And every once in a while, we’ll ask the dangerous question:
Was this stuff actually as awesome as we remember?
Expect ridiculous debates, brutally honest opinions, personal stories, deep dives, forgotten memories, plenty of laughs, and three grown men proving that apparently there is no age limit on arguing about 1980s movies and action figures.
But Camp Wayback is about more than nostalgia.
It’s about why this stuff still matters.
Why a movie can instantly take you back to being 12 years old. Why seeing an old toy on a shelf can unlock a memory you haven't thought about in 30 years. Why the things we loved growing up somehow became part of who we are today.
So grab a seat by the fire.
Crack open something cold.
And leave adulthood back at the cabin.
Welcome to Camp Wayback.
You’ve been here before.
