Launched in 2002, the Global Fund was created to tackle the greatest pandemics of its time: Tuberculosis, Malaria and HIV/AIDS. Over the past 20 years, it has helped save 44 million lives across 155 countries. But for the first time, progress towards eradicating all three diseases has stalled, suffering major setbacks due to Covid-19.

This autumn, the US will be hosting the seventh replenishment of the Global Fund. To remind decision-makers of the importance to fully invest, ONE activists in Brussels and the UK paid a visit to their respective parliamentarians and we have exclusive interviews!

As we did during our first season of Campaigning with EUphoria, this season I will bring you closer to the campaigns we are driving at the heart of the European institutions and beyond.

During this exciting journey, I’ll be joined by ONE’s global activists from across Europe, interviewing them as they spend their summer energising and mobilising public awareness to put equity and sustainable growth at the forefront of the partnership between Europe and Africa.

For the second episode of #Campaigning with EUphoria Canelle will discuss the MFF, an acronym standing for “Multiannual Financial Framework”, which is the name of the EU’s long-term budget, only negotiated every seven years. The current MFF runs from 2014 to 2020. After more than two years of discussions, European leaders reached a deal on the next MFF, which will cover the period from 2021 to 2027 and will include a recovery package to tackle the socio economic consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic.

How to turn a small shot into a big opportunity: Campaigning for Gavi the Vaccine Alliance 

In March 2020, ONE launched the Gavi Campaign, asking the European Union to pledge 300 million euros to Gavi. Thanks to ONE's youth ambassadors relentlessly campaigning Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission pledged on June 4th during Gavi’s third donor pledging conference. The summit gathered almost 8 billion euros to support health systems and immunise 300 million more children in the world’s poorest countries against diseases like measles, polio, and diphtheria by the end of 2025.

Campaigning with EUphoria: Voices of ONE’s Youth Activists in Brussels is a podcast made by volunteers from the ONE Campaign in Brussels to talk about their activism and the campaigns and action they carry out to end extreme poverty.

In 2020, the Belgium ONE Activist Programme is bringing together 58 new youth ambassadors of 17 different nationalities. As youth Ambassadors, we are the key in drawing the public's attention to fight against extreme poverty and taking that fight to policymakers whose decision can make a difference.
