Tilley, a specialist science teacher at Seaforth Primary School in Sydney’s Northern beaches, was awarded the honour for mentoring younger teachers and Macquarie University teaching students on how to teach science to primary school students.

“Communicating science, getting children inspired with science, engaging the community and scientists themselves with science to make it a better place for the kids—that’s my passion,” Tilley said.

Tilley also said “I’ve never seen a primary school student who isn’t curious and doesn’t want to be engaged in science.” He argued you just to need to teach the teachers on how to effectively engage the students.

The university graduates of 2025 will be need to be socially intelligent, be subject matter experts, be independent learners, be highly innovative, creative, and collaborative; have portable skillsets, have a solid resume with relevant work experience, be new media literate, and be open-minded to have successful career in a job market dominated by casual employment and short-term contracts.

It’s likely they’ll work in a “bleisure” environment – and where they work may even be fitted with napping pods. ‘Bleisure’ is a portmanteau of business and leisure. It’s also possible, as some parents are buying their children housing today because of the prohibitive housing market in Sydney and Melbourne, parents will also buy their children businesses for them to run.

The federal government has also pledged $40 million to the program over its 20 year lifespan. The University of Melbourne, Queensland University of Technology, and New Zealand’s University of Auckland will educate the fellows and provide additional financial contributions. The program is called The Atlantic Fellows for Social Equity program.
