Can I Copy and Paste Other People's Content?

Listen Later

Something has really irritated me lately. Instagram users are increasingly copying and pasting other people's content into their feeds, stories, and reels. This strategy is not beneficial for you or your business. Inauthentic content that is copied and pasted from somewhere else is the easiest way to repel potential followers.

As a result, you won't convert your followers into customers, so there's no point in wasting your time with this strategy.  It isn't your content, your words, or your brand, so if you are sharing from a place that isn't aligned with your values and beliefs, your ideal clients will be turned off. Though it may seem easy and like a strategy that has worked for someone else, it is not the best approach. When you copy and paste someone else's pictures, videos, and words, you're not sharing the real you with your audience.

You need to get your big girl pants on and stop copying and pasting others' content into your business.  Be the original you were created to be. It doesn't mean you can't use other people's content as inspiration to repurpose it in the right way. Simply Stated, copy and pasted content is a big NO, NO in the world of social media marketing.

I believe that there are a few ways that you can repurpose other people's content to help your business. However, if you intend to use someone else's content, you should first speak with them. The best way to collaborate is to reach out and connect about another person's content. Even when asking to share, it is best to align your own brand identity with the content. Creating these connections is also a great way to network.

Remember to give credit to the creator, which goes beyond just tagging the image, it's about writing it in the caption. Many people miss this obvious point when repurposing that the owner of the content should get credit. This can also keep you out of trouble if their content happens to be copyright protected.

For a moment, let's pause that since we're being taught to copy other content with the biggest trend on Instagram: Reels. Even with Reels, I suggest you look at the trends and make them your own. Make your own unique mark. Borrowing someone else's content and expecting it to work for your business and life is a mistake.
