Zuri wanted to know about her father's death. She knew Aunt Ebele would tell her the whole truth. Zuri was finally ready to hear the whole truth. Zuri and Aunt Ebele found themselves in a prolonged silence, punctuated only by the occasional cooing and laughter of Minkah. A spring storm had unexpectedly arisen, its ferocity evident in the unrelenting sway of the trees under the onslaught of wind and rain, visible through the window.
Breaking the silence, Zuri turned to Aunt Ebele, "May I pose a question?" she asked. Aunt Ebele, with her characteristic grace, responded, "Of course, my dear. Feel free to ask anything."
Zuri, struggling to articulate her thoughts, finally managed to ask, "What transpired with my father?" The fate of Ike had always been a convoluted topic within the family. Zuri had scant knowledge about her father's demise.
