Behind the doors of a beautiful Toronto home, a nightmare was unfolding.

Dr. Elana Fric-Shamji was a respected family physician, a devoted mother, and a woman trying to escape a marriage marked by years of abuse. Her husband, Dr. Mohammed Shamji, was a prominent neurosurgeon with a successful career and a carefully maintained public image.

But in November 2016, just days after Elana took steps to end their marriage, her life was brutally cut short.

In Part 01 of this two-part Canadian Creepies investigation, we explore the relationship between Elana and Mohammed, the warning signs, the escalating violence, and the devastating events that led to her murder.

Plus, in Creep of the Week, we head to Ottawa, where a mother's horrific neglect left her disabled son fighting for his life. When school staff became increasingly concerned about his disappearance from the classroom, their determination to find answers ultimately led to a rescue that saved his life.

On June 6, 1980, 56-year-old Zigmund Adamski left his home in Tingley, West Yorkshire, England, to run a simple errand.

He never returned.

Five days later, his body was discovered on top of a ten-foot pile of coal in Todmorden, more than twenty miles from where he'd disappeared.

But the circumstances surrounding his death were anything but ordinary.

His clothing was strangely arranged, some personal belongings were missing, and unusual marks were discovered on his body. Although a heart attack was identified as the cause of death, investigators were left with troubling questions about where Zigmund had been for five days and how he ended up in that coal yard.

And then the story took an even stranger turn.

Months later, a police officer involved in the investigation reported a mysterious UFO encounter of his own, fuelling speculation that something beyond the ordinary might have been involved in Adamski's disappearance.

Was this a case of foul play, an unexplained series of coincidences, or something that continues to defy explanation?

The release of documents connected to Jeffrey Epstein has reignited conversations about wealth, influence, exploitation, and accountability. But amid the headlines, viral claims, and speculation, an important question remains: what do these records actually tell us?

In this episode of Canadian Creepies, Ali returns as Valerie's co-host as they examine the Canadian connections found in the Epstein files, separating documented relationships and business dealings from unverified allegations and misleading online claims.

With research by Christine Young, we explore the different circumstances in which Canadian names appear in the records, from disgraced fashion mogul Peter Nygard and Cirque du Soleil founder Guy Laliberté to cryptocurrency entrepreneur Austin Hill and former media baron Conrad Black.

We also examine references to Mark Carney and Justin Trudeau, the misinformation surrounding their names, and why appearing in a document is not evidence of criminal wrongdoing.

And then there's Epstein's connection to Canada itself. How was a convicted sex offender able to visit Vancouver in 2014, despite a criminal record that should have made him inadmissible?

The U.S. Department of Justice and FBI have stated that their review did not uncover an incriminating client list. With millions of pages released, context matters more than ever.

This episode isn't about turning every name into an accusation. It's about understanding the evidence, questioning the systems that allowed Epstein to operate, and keeping the focus on the people harmed by his crimes.

On the morning of October 7, 1853, something strange disturbed the quiet streets of Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island.

The bell of the Kirk of St. James began ringing, despite there being no service scheduled and seemingly no one there to ring it.

According to local legend, a sea captain and the church keeper spotted four mysterious women near the church, including one looking down from the belfry. But when they went to investigate, the women had vanished.

The only thing left was the bell, still vibrating.

Later that same day, the mail steamer Fairy Queen departed Charlottetown bound for Pictou, Nova Scotia. That night, the ship was wrecked in stormy waters, claiming seven lives, including four women, three of whom belonged to the Kirk's congregation.

Was the mysterious ringing a supernatural warning of the tragedy to come?

In Maritime folklore, these eerie warnings are sometimes known as forerunners, unexplained signs believed to predict an approaching death.

The story became such an enduring part of Canadian ghost lore that Canada Post featured the Phantom Bell Ringers in its 2016 Haunted Canada stamp collection.

In this episode of Down the Crooked Path, Amanda explores the haunting legend, the historical tragedy behind it, and the possibility that some warnings arrive long before we understand what they mean.

In Northern Ontario sits one of the largest peatland ecosystems on Earth, so vast it stores more carbon per square metre than the Amazon rainforest. The Omushkego Cree call it Yehewin Aski, the Breathing Lands, and their nations have stewarded it since time immemorial under Treaty 9.

In 2025, Ontario tabled Bill 5, the so-called Protect Ontario by Unleashing our Economy Act, on the eve of the Easter long weekend. Buried inside it: Special Economic Zones, where the Premier's Cabinet can exempt handpicked developers from environmental assessments, municipal bylaws, and heritage protections. The first target is the mineral-rich Ring of Fire, in the heart of Treaty 9.

This week we're digging into how Bill 5 works, how it sidesteps the constitutional duty to consult, the repeal of Ontario's Endangered Species Act, and the fight now underway: a $95 billion lawsuit from ten Treaty 9 First Nations demanding co-jurisdiction over their homelands, grassroots land defenders heading to court, and communities refusing to let their treaty rights be legislated away.

In the 1870s, the Acadian fishing village of Chéticamp, Nova Scotia, was a place where faith, folklore, and superstition ran deep. With the local fishing industry dominated by merchants from the island of Jersey, tensions between outsiders and the Acadian community created fertile ground for some very strange stories.

Enter Charlie Romeril, a young Jersey clerk whose reputation for sorcery would become the stuff of local legend.

Whispers of curses, a servant girl driven mad, mysterious disturbances at the priest's home, and an elaborate attempt to destroy a supposed sorcerer using a snowman. Yes, a snowman.

But Charlie wasn't the only person rumoured to possess supernatural abilities. Chéticamp's history is filled with tales of folk healers, mysterious practitioners, and unusual protections against unseen forces, including a girl said to have worn a red ribbon for the rest of her life.

Were these genuine encounters with the supernatural, misunderstandings fuelled by fear, or simply a few mischievous young men having far too much fun?

Eight men. One remote Ontario farmhouse. And a betrayal that would become one of the darkest chapters in Canadian organized crime history.

In the second half of The Shedden Massacre, Valerie and Amanda pick up where the violence left off, following the investigation, the shocking revelations, and the lengthy trial that would expose what happened behind closed doors.

As investigators pieced together the final hours of eight members and associates of the Bandidos Motorcycle Club, a story of shifting loyalties, internal power struggles, and calculated violence began to emerge.

With a crucial witness, six men facing murder charges, and a courtroom filled with disturbing testimony, the case would result in an astonishing 44 first-degree murder convictions and four manslaughter convictions.

But behind the headlines and courtroom proceedings were eight lives lost, grieving families, and questions about loyalty, power, and the devastating consequences of organized crime.

In a small Ontario community in 1919, a woman named Maggie Pollock found herself at the centre of a controversy that seemed better suited to the 1600s than the 20th century.

Maggie was known around Huron County for her unusual abilities. She claimed to receive visions, communicate with the dead, and help neighbours locate things that had gone missing. To some, she possessed an extraordinary gift. To others, her abilities were something far more suspicious.

But when a farmer paid Maggie to help locate stolen grain, her mysterious reputation landed her in serious legal trouble.

Maggie was charged under a Canadian law that criminalized certain claims of supernatural powers. Her case would become one of the country's most unusual legal battles, raising questions about belief, fraud, superstition, and the treatment of women who didn't quite fit society's expectations.

And the strangest part? The law that helped put Maggie on trial remained on Canada's books until 2018.

In this episode of Down the Crooked Path, Amanda explores the extraordinary true story of Maggie Pollock, the woman known as the Seeress of Blyth, and the Huron County witchcraft case.
