Igor Shesterkin stopped all 28 Hurricanes shots and won a goaltending duel with Pyotr Kochetkov. Carolina's goalie stopped 23 shots and made a handful of spectacular saves in the loss. Carolina drops to 6 points behind New York in the division race with 17 games to play.

  • Canes' top line douses Flames, 7-2.

Sebastian Aho, Andre Svechnikov and Teuvo Teravainen combined for 8 points in the Canes 7-2 win over the Calgary Flames.  Aho set up Jordan Martinook for the first goal, scored the second after a Flames turnover and then set up Svechnikov to make it 4-0 early in the 2nd period.  Jalen Chatfield and Seth Jarvis each had a goal and an assist.  Frederik Andersen turned aside 17 shots for his second win since returning from the injured list.  Brent Burns also scored for the Hurricanes, snapping an 8-game goal drought.

  • Necas PPG helps Canes past Devils, 4-2.

Martin Necas' 20th goal of the season, which came on Carolina's first power play of the day, got the Hurricanes off to a great start and they went on to beat the New Jersey Devils, 4-2.  Jesperi Kotkaniemi's sharp angle shot, caught Devils goalie Nico Daws off guard early in the 3rd and it went over his shoulder, off of the far post, then hit Daws in the back before tumbling into the net, giving Carolina a 2-1 lead they wouldn't relinquish.  Andrei Svechnikov and Teuvo Teravainen each scored into an empty net and the Canes completed a season sweep of New Jersey.  Pyotr Kochetkov made 23 saves in the win.

  • Andersen's return fuels Canes 4-1 win over Montreal

Frederick Andersen's first game in more than 4 months was a 4-1 win over Montreal. He made 24 saves, played almost 2 minutes without a stick and was named the game's 1st star after missing the last 50 games due to a blood clotting condition that could have ended his career. Brady Skjei helped his teammate celebrate with a pair of gorgeous goals and Carolina gained two points on the idle NY Rangers who were off Thursday night. Before the game, the team opted to hold Michael Bunting out of the lineup due to the fact that he was part of the trade that sent Jake Guentzel to Carolina. That trade is official.

  • Canes collapse in 3rd, lose 5-3 to the Jets

The Hurricanes took a 3-0 lead into the 3rd period against Winnipeg Saturday afternoon, but one bad goal allowed by Pyotr Kochetkov was enough to rattle him and the group couldn't protect him enough in a 5-3 loss to the Jets.  Martin Necas, Teuvo Teravainen and Sebastian Aho each scored in the second half of the second period to give the Canes a 3-0 lead heading to the 3rd, but Kyle Connor's quick shot from just inside the blue line caught Pyotr Kochetkov by surprise 96 seconds into the period and that was enough to unnerve the Canes rookie goalie.  Four minutes later the game was tied and Carolina would fall, 5-3, as Winnipeg completes the season sweep.

Then, just after coming out of the penalty box, Brady Skjei scored a one-handed breakaway goal for Carolina's third goal of the second period. Seth Jarvis scored into an empty net late in the 3rd for the final marker.

Pyotr Kochetkov made 28 saves and the Canes rallied from a 2-1 deficit late in the 2nd period to pick up the win. Jordan Staal and Andrei Svechnikov each scored as well, with Andrei's coming with about 30 seconds left in the 2nd period. That goal got the Canes even and they played a much better period in the end.

  • Martin helps Canes steal a point from Buffalo

Spencer Martin made 30 saves in Carolina's 3-2 shootout loss to the Sabres.  Carolina twice gave away a 1-goal lead before dragging the game into overtime to earn a point.  Tony DeAngelo scored inside of 3 minutes to give the Canes the lead.  It was his first goal since December 15th and just his 3rd of the season.  Martin Necas scored on the power play with just over 5 minutes left in regulation.  But, neither lead was safe for a Hurricanes team that was clearly mentally tired from a grueling week.

  • Canes stymied in 3rd, can't solve Dallas in 2-1 loss

Sebastian Aho's breakaway goal early in the 2nd was all the Hurricanes could muster in a 2-1 home loss to Dallas.  Carolina's winning streak ends at 4 in a row.  Pyotr Kochetkov made 14 saves, but couldn't prevent Jason Robertson and Wyatt Johnston from scoring as the Stars sweep the 2-game season series from the Canes.  Carolina, who trails the Rangers by 8 points now in the Metropolitan Division, plays Buffalo Sunday to start a 3-game road trip.
