RJ Hopp, Director of Hemp Markets at PanXchange, spoke with Kristina Etter, editor of Cannabis Tech, in the first episode of a new, joint-monthly podcast, "A Tech Moment: PanXchange Hemp Market Report."
PanXchange delivers insights into the commodities markets, and following the 2018 US Farm Bill, they now cover hemp. The monthly hemp report provides reporting on hemp pricing in five key markets: Oregon, Colorado, Kentucky, and the recently added Great Plains and Northeast. The platform tracks several key commodities, including biomass, winterized crude oil, full-spectrum distillate, broad-spectrum distillate, and cannabidiol (CBD) isolate.
Each monthly report includes updates to regulations, both across the US and abroad, and notable hemp headlines. In the last few months, the report has also included a detailed examination of some of the industrial applications of hemp, which tend to get overlooked in today's CBD-focused world.
After facing a national health crisis with the vape epidemic, the American cannabis industry earned a plethora of fair criticism. With products such as vitamin e acetate sold as healthy cutting agents on the market mere years ago, it’s paramount to upkeep a standard for testing and policing products as an industry.
“From molds to microbials, pesticides, and heavy metals, cannabis products can contain a wide variety of products if we’re not careful in how these products are tested,” Kristina Etter of Cannabis Tech said. In this Tech Moment with AgriScience Labs, a cannabis testing lab in Colorado, she exclaimed, “Whether you’re vaping, smoking, or ingesting cannabis, consumers deserve to know what’s in these products.”
Test results are in... nearly 80% of illicit vape cartridges deemed unfit for consumption.
From cyanide to lead, a global vaping crisis requires more than one contaminant. Unfortunately, due to a lack of regulatory agencies willing to process cannabis, and a lack of research, consumers are not armed with a plethora of information concerning cannabis vapor products. Infinite CAL recently partnered up with companies Platinum Vape and Mankind Dispensary in San Diego, CA, to test black market vapes that were collected during their innovative buyback program. The program exchanged black market products for a Platinum Vape cartridge to keep cannabis consumers safe. InfiniteCAL then tested the collected illicit cartridges for potency and harmful contaminants.
Starting with the industrial revolution and arriving at the current state of technology, there have been six waves of innovation. What began with industrialization has resulted in scientific advancements such as nanotechnology. Producers will save time and money by working with Sixth Wave, a nanotechnology company with lucrative patents concerning gold and cannabis extraction. They specialize in detection and extraction methods that prove chromatography is no longer an ideal solution for either process.
Recently coming out secrecy, Sixth Wave has announced Affinity™, their new cannabinoid separation and purification system that will simplify processing and innovate the field. The President and CEO of Sixth Wave, Jonathan Gluckman Ph.D., spoke with Kristina Etter of Cannabis Tech for a special live edition of A Tech Moment to detail this technology.
Let’s face it, not everyone loves the smell of cannabis.
In this Tech Moment, we sat down with Autumn Shelton and Hanna Brand, co-owners of Autumn Brands. Over a century ago, Autumn Brands family was still growing flowers, but back then, the flowers they sold were tulips. Today, their crop is a little more controversial.
This Santa Barbra based, fifty-percent women-owned coastal cannabis cultivator places great emphasis on naturally grown crops. Throughout their farms, they avoid the use of pesticides and other chemicals that are unideal for human consumption. Additionally, as community stewards, when their neighbors complained about the smell from cannabis cultivation, these women set out to make things right.
