Unfortunately we started off this week with the sad news of the passing of Gerard Houllier.
My earliest memories of falling in love not just with Liverpool, but Football, were with Houllier's Liverpool team that won the treble.
Most specifically Michael Owen scoring two goals against Arsenal in the FA Cup final and doing a somersault and then Gary McAllister (who I fortunately had the privilege of meeting in California) whipping in a free kick that was headed in for an own goal during Golden goal in the UEFA Cup Final.
That started my journey to playing football for my whole youth, then leading into pursuing a football career coaching in California for 8 years, and finally back to Scotland now talking about football with some of my closest friends and my brother.
So the Weekend Review this week is dedicated to Gerard.
I will finish off this description with a quote from him that sums up how not just football should be, but life itself:
"Generosity always pays off. Generosity in your effort, in your work, in your kindness, in the way you look after people and take care of people. In the long run, if you are generous with a heart, and with humanity, it always pays off"
Thanks for the memories Gerard,
