Stephanie Olson brings knowledge on the topic of human trafficking, a topic that is becoming more prominent throughout the United States. What often comes as a surprise to some is that human trafficking is not often the movie “Taken,” kidnapping, white vans, etc. Therefore, my guest talks about the reality of human trafficking.
According to Stephanie, most frequently, traffickers build relationships with the individuals and there is an increase in familial trafficking. Therefore, Mom's and Dad's, Grandma's and Grandpa's are the traffickers. Social media may be dangerous as my guest suggested that it’s the number one place traffickers use to lure the individuals, they traffick. So, she informed that “less than 2% of trafficking victims are recovered which is why prevention is so critical”.
Stephanie Olson has experienced trauma in her own life through domestic violence, sexual violence, addiction, and abandonment. Therefore, she has learned how to have resilience in life and leadership and has a desire to instil that in others. So, she talks with Dr Canute White on Canyouth’s Exploration She is the CEO of The Set Me Free Project that provides prevention education on human trafficking, social media safety, and healthy relationships. She also teaches resilience in life and leadership. #humantrafficking #sexualviolence #domesticviolence
