Going by the original Japanese launch date of October 1988, the Sega Mega Drive (Sega Genesis) turns 25 in 2013. It’s an occasion worth celebrating, and what’s pleasing is that the Mega Drive is a name that is still well known and relevant in the modern gaming scene. It certainly didn’t suffer the same fate as consoles like the 3DO, Jaguar, and TurboGrafix, where modern gamers have to look up Wikipedia just to see what they were. The Mega Drive is a brand that is still instantly recognizable and alive, just hop on to Xbox Live/PSN/Steam today and you will find a wide selection of beautifully ported classics, many with added network functionality even.

This is our final podcast of this format, it is also the second attempt at a 70th Podcast, hence the B. I hope you all enjoy it, for we will return later with a more streamlined and personal sounding podcast.

It all began as a last ditch effort to create a game that would sell reasonably well in 1987, but 25 years later it stands as one of the most iconic and successful video game franchises of all time, I am of course talking about Final Fantasy.

Ever since its debut on the Nintendo Entertainment System, the series has only risen in commercial success and popularity. It was however the highly acclaimed and revolutionary Final Fantasy VII on the original PlayStation that really gave the franchise a dominating presence all over the world, and it continues to ride that momentum till this very day. The staying power of Final Fantasy really shouldn't surprise anyone, and what’s really impressive is how Final Fantasy has consistently been an integral of part of the gaming scene in just about every console generation since its inception, and continues to do so. The series now celebrates its 25th anniversary, and there are certainly no signs of it slowing down.

2012 came and went in what felt like a blink of an eye. Before December came to a close, we seen the year of the sequel, the rise of the indie, and digital interpretations of storytelling that captured our hearts and minds. After twelve months of blockbusters, it's time to celebrate the games that went for big and delivered in excellence in every way imaginable.  From the iOS to the Xbox 360, join us yet again as we revel in the year that was, and relive memories of what will go down as some of the greatest gems of a generation.
