In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month during the month of May, we are talking about how to connect with the people in our lives by having more meaningful conversations and learning to become a better listener. These tips will ensure that the people you interact with feel heard and more connected to you by strengthening your ability to listen. 1. Maintain eye contact.
2. DO NOT INTERRUPT!
3. Don’t rephrase what someone says, but rather check for understanding by repeating what was said.
4. Be aware of your facial expressions and body language during conversations.
5. Use acknowledgement statements.
6. Ask follow up questions.
7. Be sincerely interested in what the other person has to say and aim for BIG talk rather than small talk.
