En la primavera de 1967, dos años antes de la celebración de Woodstock, Alan Pariser un angelino pirrado por el jazz, inspirado por el Jazz Festival de Monterey en California, se le ocurrió montar un festival de música, el Monterey Festival Music Love and Flowers.

Pariser, se asoció con unos cuantas figuras del mundo musical. Promotores de conciertos, el manager de Jefferson Airplane, se apuntaron otros que pusieron dinero como Paul McCartney, Mick Jagger, Donovan, Smokey Robinson, Brian Wilson y algunos más y alquilaron el Monterey County Fairgroundd, el recinto ferial de Monterey, para organizar tres días de conciertos, desde el viernes 16 al 19 de julio de 1967. Fue el primer festival musical, antes de Woodstock en 1969.

Esta es la lista de temas en directo del festival y añadimos como bonus track a Lou Rawls un spoken word que actuó en el festival y que faltó en el programa número 300 dedicado a Crooners.

Programa dedicado íntegramente a The Zombies. Banda menos reconocida de lo que merecen y que se han mantenido unidos durante décadas.

Su último disco Odessey and Oracle, publicado por CBS, se grabó en los estudios de Abbey Road, en el que acababan de grabar The Beatles Sargent Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. The Zombies, sin compañía discográfica, se hicieron cargo de los gastos de producción.

La portada del disco, realizada por Terry Quirk, la hizo sentado en el estudio 3 de Abbey Road. Mientras dibujaba, en la funda de un viejo disco apareció la palabra Odessey y luego Oracle. Así se llamó. Odessey con E y no con Y griega. No se dieron cuenta del error hasta que ya se iba a poner a la venta. Para justificarlo, Rod Argent se inventó que era un juego de palabras, una especie de viaje musical y lo creyó todo el mundo hasta años más tarde.

Acompañada por el tercer libro de la trilogía sobre soul, escrita por Luis Lapuente “Los 100 mejores discos del soul”. Su primer título fue “El muelle de la bahía” y continuó con “Las tierras de las mil danzas”.

De esos 100 discos, solo abarcamos una pequeña parte. Nos centramos en algunos temas de solistas, de la década de los 50 y los 60.

Sin ser consciente, el programa ha resultado de lo más reivindicativo con lo que está ocurriendo en la actualidad en Estados Unidos.

El pasado 10 de enero, se cumplieron 10 años desde que nos dejó David Bowie, nuestro “Cosmonauta Perdido”.

Antes de que llegara el éxito formó parte de bandas púberes como The Kon-Rads, The King Bees, The Mannish Boys o The Lower Third.

David Bowie será por siempre un icono pop, que tuvo el acierto de mezclar original e inteligentemente diferentes facetas culturales de las que era un apasionado.

Fusionó sus gustos e influencias de música, moda, arte, cine y literatura para construirse a si mismo como un artista conceptual mezclando todas las artes con la maestría de un alquimista y consiguiendo integrar magistralmente su continua búsqueda, en una carrera artística soberbia.
