In order to help clear some of the ambiguity in the medical school admissions process, I invited interview Dr. Goodell, Dean of Admissions at Boston University School of Medicine and former admissions committee member at Harvard University School of Medicine, onto the show. Here she provides fantastic insight into the medical school admissions process for not only BU, but with other schools nationwide. In addition to her perspective on medical school, she also outlines her unique journey through medicine and how she became the successful doctor she is via such an unconventional path. Students from across disciplines will benefit from Dr. Goodell's encouraging words and wealth of experience in academia and medicine. 

Today, we hear the gracious insight of soon-to-be Dr. Ben Croll, a graduating medical student who will discuss the pros and cons of going to medical school via the U.S. Military. In this interview, Ben talks about his experience with the HPSP Scholarship, how his decision to pursue military medicine will affect his future as a doctor, and break down whether or not this decision is for everyone. In our 3rd episode of our Let's Talk series, Vivian Ha, a pre-dental student, discusses her love for the field and how she succeeds as a student. She discusses her experience with the DAT, how she arrived at pre-dental, and how she is going about applying to dental school.

About Vivian: Vivian Ha is a first-generation candidate for a Bachelor of Science degree in Neuroscience with a double minor in Chemistry and English. She conducts undergraduate research in analytical chemistry and neuropharmacology, and she has authored and given multiple presentations on her work. Her volunteer passions reside in working with children—particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds. Although previously interested in a medical degree, she currently seeks to pursue dentistry with an undeclared specialty. Through CardinalMed, she seeks to offer multiple vantage points on healthcare to better inform other pre-health professionals and to emphasize initially unclear relationships between certain topics (such as neuroscience and dentistry). Her main hobbies include cooking, exercising, painting, reading, and creating homemade gifts for her friends. She is additionally a Marvel & My Hero Academia fan and a self-declared Tetris™ prodigy. Vivian swam competitively for over 12 years, and her favorite food is her mother’s homemade Vietnamese cooking. After Muhlenberg, Vivian wants to pursue a D.M.D. or D.D.S degree at an accredited dental school.

As a (pre-med) student, it's easy to not adequately cater to the aspects of your life that make you happy. Whether it's due to a hectic class schedule, or lacking the energy to keep up with your passions, our happiness as students is often pushed aside in pursuit of a one-track-mind goal: getting into a graduate school or landing a job. In this episode, I invited my friend Michael, who is a guitarist pursuing his MD/PhD, to talk about his experience in keeping up with the guitar over the years, and the importance of maintaining your passions.

Personal finance is, in my experience, a grossly ignored topic in the classroom. Most people take a class or two in high school or younger, when they're too young and inexperienced to really care about the material. But having poor financial skills can ruin you -- not matter what your profession is. In this episode, we go over some basics to personal finance, particularly as a future healthcare provider. We talk about budgeting, student loan management, and getting into investing.
