  • 7: You've Got the Dream Job. Now What?

    Send us Fan Mail

You want a new job or promotion, and you’re putting in a lot of work to make that happen. You need to manage your mind as you navigate toward whatever is next for your career.

If you are a Jeopardy fan! Like me, you are watching closely to see who will ultimately take over hosting duties after Alex Trebek’s passing. In my opinion, Ken Jennings is doing a good job. It would be unfair to judge his performance at the same level as Alex Trebek’s 37 years of experience hosting Jeopardy! and against his entire broadcasting career. Plus, I share my experiences playing a trivia game against Ken.

You could only hope for the same grace and patience as you move into whatever role is next. Feedback is important. You must perform your job duties effectively with the knowledge, skills, and competence to do the job well. And you need time. But you’ve put in plenty of time to get where you want to go. Now, it’s time for you to learn and do your job.

One question I often ask my clients is, “How would you SHOW UP for work if you were acting in this role?” Focus on your mindset and demonstrate you have the skills and abilities to act in whatever new role you choose.

    Key Topics & Time Stamps:

    ·      Lessons learned from Ken Jennings as guest host of Jeopardy! (2:40)

    ·      The time I met Ken Jennings and played against him (9:08)

    ·      You’ve already got the job. Now what? (12:43)

    ·      How to prepare for your promotion (14:07)

    ·      How will you SHOW UP for that new job before you have it? (15:19)

  • 6: Defining "At-Will" Employment

    Send us Fan Mail

On January 6, 2021, our nation experienced one of its darkest days. A violent insurrection happened on our Nation’s Capitol, leaving five people dead and numerous people injured. (Source: CNN) As we continue to learn and gather more information about that awful day, many people have been arrested, lost their jobs, and may face fines and other punishments resulting from their participation.

  • 4: SHOWing UP for Your Career

    Send us Fan Mail

You bring specific energy, talents, and skills to your job. While others may possess the same technical skills as you, there is a way you do your job that no one else can do. Yes, you are replaceable. But until that time comes, how you do your job is a big part of how you SHOW UP.

SHOWing UP is more than just physically being in the room. It’s how you connect, engage, inspire, and motivate others to do their work. It’s about the quality of your work and the importance of your client relationships. As a former hiring manager, I used to shutter when I heard a candidate say they were a great team player. I think I know what you mean, but let’s be clear about precisely what you mean by being a great team player. The same is true for how we SHOW UP. This episode is going to help norm the conversation.

In this episode, I’m sharing six specific strategies to help you SHOW UP more energetically and impactfully in your career. These strategies will help you define your daily interactions and chart a path to achieving your career goals. I’ll share a defining and influential moment in my life that taught me what it meant for me to SHOW UP and what I did after that. And I’ll highlight one specific strategy designed to help you shift your mindset from being a generalist to a specialist.

    Key Topics & Time Stamps:

    ·      My life-changing event (3:10)

    ·      Defining my #SHOWUP6Strategies (3:50)

    ·      Communicating how you SHOW UP in your interview (7:57)

    ·      Identifying your “Genius” (10:50)

    ·      Difference between a “specialist” and a “generalist” (16:20)

    ·      Finding ways to use your “Genius” (19:55)
