For our second episode of 2021, we're trying something a little bit different; Committee Conversations! In this episode we hear from Hayley, Sumaya, Rose, Rohini, and Kesang from the MHSS committee. They discuss what they've been doing this year to stay on track with their university work and life balance during lockdowns. Working towards a degree is difficult at the best of times, but doing it during a pandemic is even more so. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, try out some of these tips from our committee. Welcome back to Career Conversations with the Monash Health Science Society 2021!
In 2019, Brooke Maat completed a Bachelor of Science (majoring in Physiology and minoring in Pharmacology) from Monash University. During Brooke's studies, she participated in extra-curricular activities including undergraduate research, consulting, social media management and communications. Her past expereinces and passion for research led her to undertake a Bachelor of Health Science Honours year in 2020 with the Monash Universtiy school of Public Health and Preventative Medicine. This Honours year enabled Brooke to develop necessary skills to land a graduate role in 2021 where Brooke will be working as a Business Analyst for a Marketing Science consultancy company in Melbourne.
For our ninth and last episode of season one, we had a chat with Cherry Wong, a bachelor of Health Science graduate from Monash University currently pursuing a Masters of Clinical Audiology at the University of Melbourne. On top of her current Master's degree, Cherry has also completed a Master of Public Health in biostatistics and epidemiology. Cherry is very passionate about audiology and hopes that in the near future, hearing impairment and hearing aids could be normalised. For our eighth episode, we had a chat with Sasha Hermosa, who graduated from Monash University's Bachelor of Public Health Science and Bachelor of Health Science (Honours). Sasha is currently working as a Project Officer (COVID-19 Taskforce) at the Department of Health and Human Services, specifically working with Data and Intelligence. During and following Sasha's studies, she has completed a number of internships and held various roles in research and health promotion. Listen to Sasha talk a bit more about procuring government jobs and her take on research!
For our seventh episode, we had a chat with Solomon Silverstein, who is a current Masters of Public Health student at Monash University and is also currently working for the Department of Health and Human Services as an Epidemiology Support Officer on the Location Outbreaks Team. Solomon completed his undergraduate degree in biomedical science and an Honours year in immunology at Monash University, where he discovered his interest in epidemiology. For our sixth episode, we had a chat with Chloe Martin, who has decided to move her life up to Sydney for a graduate role with the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare after graduating from her Bachelor of Public Health degree in 2019 at Monash University. She joined the Health Group’s cardiovascular, diabetes and kidney disease unit where I work with various types of data to tell an important story about the health outcomes experienced by Australians. For our fifth episode, we had a chat with Stephanie Hong, who is currently completing her Masters in Public Health specialising in Health Promotion and Epidemiology. Her passion for ensuring equitable health and closing health gaps is undeniable. She has also recently started working as a Public Health Officer for the Department of Health and Human Services - COVID-19 division. For our fourth episode, we had a chat with Mitchell, who is a social work and public health graduate from Monash University. Mitchell has experience in working in local government, primary care, community, and not-for-profit settings. He is currently the Manager of Engagement and Impact at Child Family Community Australia Information Exchange(CFCA) at the Australian Institute of Family Studies. Listen to Mitchell talk about his journey into the field of health promotion, his passion for partnering with community groups and stakeholders to design solutions for complex health problems and well-being issues.
For our third episode, we had a chat with Amy, who graduated with a Bachelor of Public Health Science from Monash University in 2018. Amy is currently completing her Masters of Physiotherapy. Amy says although physiotherapy is difficult, she worked hard to get in and is currently enjoying her course. Tune in and learn more about Amy's academic journey!
For our second episode, we had a chat with Mariam, who graduated with a Bachelor of Public Health Science from Monash University in 2018. Mariam is currently completing a Masters in Occupational Therapy, where she will be graduating soon. According to Mariam, the Bachelor of Public Health Science had helped her set a great foundation for her future.
