On this week's Career Therapy Podcast, Meg Murphy talks us through her layoff story as a Brand and Product Manager, and how she leveraged her community to bounce back and land a job during the pandemic.

Lia James has built her career across workforce development, curriculum design, inclusive hiring, writing, and storytelling, and joins us today to cover a myriad of topics centered around getting the job that’s right for YOU. She's a “connector with an innate ability for bringing people together.” Her “mind is in a constant daydream of solution-chasing and people-matching as if a large Rolodex of puzzle pieces were magically flipping through [her] head.” Our conversation touches on vulnerability, networking tips & tricks, and what actually works in the modern day job search.

Juliet is a self-proclaimed “incubatress of ideas,” and in this conversation, she and Martin discuss their shared interest in overcoming mental blocks. Juliet also talks about how she became a creative career coach after stints in television, broadcasting (at PBS), and professional mural painting.

We chose this episode as the second Career Therapy Rewind because Martin and Juliet specifically discuss how to work with unconventional and/or off-the-beaten path pieces of a lifetime. What should you do about a resumé gap? What if you were a professional poker player for a few years?? What if, like Martin, you sang in a ska band??? (Believe it.) These are less talked-about career challenges and something that Juliet’s not afraid to tackle.
