I’ve also cared for my elderly grandmother for years until her passing 5 years ago. For fun I am first and foremost a Band Mom for my daughter, I fell in love with hiking during Covid-19, and I love to travel the globe. Hello, and welcome to episode number three of our first mini series, caregiver. Happiness. We're going to welcome back charisma from Christmas care. Thanks for joining us again, charisma.

Has been awesome. So episode one, we talked about why pursue your happiness, uh, really who we are. And then in the second one, we talked about setting some goals and talked about, uh, happiness and the endorphin, uh, the chemicals that are released, there are four of them that can make us happy. So doing things like being kind, um, having gratitude, uh, all of those things, getting a little exercise, we need to do those things to help our happiness. And then today we're going to talk about visualizing those goals that we wrote down. And again, we encourage you to, uh, send a, uh, Instagram or a text or email, however you can reach out to, uh, send us, uh, maybe some of your goals or some things that we'd even be glad to hear. Some things that you're struggling with. Maybe we can provide you some, uh, thoughts on how to get around that. But anyway, I'm going to let charisma take it over here and talk about visualization.

All right. So last week, yes, we talked about our goals and gratitude and all those different things. So we kept a journal for a week, a gratitude journal. Hopefully we wrote some things down. We wrote down at least one thing that would make us happy. And we wrote down some goals. Uh, we wanted to dig deeper into those things that you've dreamed of doing that you may have put on hold or, uh, things that you never finished, you started, but you never got a chance to finish them, or even a dream as a child that you had that you never really thought you can accomplish. You know, when we're younger, we, you know, we want to be an astronaut and, you know, fly to the moon. Somebody actually accomplished that. I'm sure there are some people that became astronauts, but all of us did not become astronauts.

You know, maybe you wanted to dance that Julliard. Maybe you wanted to play the violin and never got around to it. You know, just whatever it is that you really thought about. So, you know, I just want you to dig a little deeper and today we want to just visibly visualize some of these things. So I want to take a moment. Have you close your eyes and just picture that dream? So where you are right now first, what does it smell like? There is it fresh cut grass? Um, do you smell the salt from the beach? What, what are the smells that are there with you now? The next thing, what do you, what do you see? Do you see the IC tips of the mountain? Cause you're going hiking. Uh, did you go to New York city and you see the statue of Liberty? Are you looking up at the clouds?

What do you see there now? What sounds do you hear? Are the birds chirping above you? Is it a ripple from, you know, is there a ripple there? Do you hear the sound of the stone that was thrown into the pond? And then lastly, what do you feel? Is it chilly air that's blowing through your hair? Is it sand in your toes? What is it that you're feeling here? And what is that emotion? Is it happy? Are you excited? Are you a little sad? Are you sad? Because you're so happy. You know, are you crying? What is that emotion that comes to you when you're in this place?

Now start to allow yourself to drift away from that happy place and come back with me back to this moment in time from this stage dream, you go open your eyes. And so it's not reality. It was just a dream yet. If you check your heart rate or your pulse, it slow down your breathing, it's slow down. It's not as rabbit rapid. Your body has relaxed. It literally feels like you were in the destination just based off of this simple vision. And this is one of the tools that I teach my patients. It's not all about, always about where we go and the money that we have and all of his time, just taking a minute or two to visualize that happy place.

Well, and you know what they say? You have to visualize it in order to get there too,

Imagine if you could actually achieve this goal and the effect that it would have to your body and to your mind and see your spirit, you know, it would just be so uplifting, you know, because when we don't do the things that we want to do or the things that we love to do, and we don't allow ourselves ourselves to have these experiences, a part of you just kind of whittles away, right? Because you're just there. And bit by bit it's, it's draining you, it's causing you to feel tired, empty, and sometimes even numb. But you know, when you allow yourself to dream and you let your imagination run wild without restraints, when you stop saying no to every experience, every time a friend calls you say, you want to go out for a drink? Well, no, I can't do that. Oh, okay. Well, we're going to go walk in.

Do you want to walk around a neighborhood? No, I don't have anyone to help me. Oh, okay. Well, you know, do you want to do such and such, you know, eventually our people start friends stop asking, you know, and then we get lonely. And then we wonder, we say, and I've caught myself saying this. I wonder why no one calls me to go out, you know, have I just, you know, and when you're in the thick of things with your, your family or your friend or whoever you're caring for, you don't really think about all of those things. But then when you're not in the thick of things, you just kind of looking around like, Oh no, one's calling me no one what's wrong. What's wrong with me? Right. It may have been the last week I was gonna say, I got some of those.

It was like that. I don't call them. I don't answer their calls because they may, uh, you may end up in jail,
Charisma - Charisma’s Care Coaching (06:39):
Hanging out with them, got to be careful [inaudible]. But then, you know, just those little things, those little goals, those little dreams, you know, just getting away a few minutes. I have a client that said on Saturdays, he just goes to the coffee shop for an hour. That is his getaway. And that helps him with his sanity. Just those little things. We, you know, yes. Our job is hard and yes, what we do requires a lot of us, but we have to find a way to carve out those little things. Yeah.

And it's going to be a little different for everybody. You know, I like, uh, picking up a book sometimes that can kind of take you away or calm you down, or even just taking some deep breaths or getting out for a walk. But, um, yeah. There's so many things that we can do to kind of get us in that place.

Yeah. And with the, with the epidemic that we've had with COVID, what we found is that even the people that weren't stuck in the house that are now stuck in the house had to find a way to make changes. You know, it's amazing the things we can do on YouTube, cooking show, yoga, exercise, you know, so many different things. So you want to allow yourself to dream and you want to let, like I said, look at imagination, run wild, you know, find out what,

Oh, excuse me. I was just going to interject it. And it doesn't have to cost a lot. We found we are not real shift people, but we like food. And so we found a cooking class or Terry did that. Uh, it was free. It was online. It was about six weeks long every week they made, uh, you know, kind of a cool dish, but there's so many resources out there available. I just want to challenge people. You know, if you really have a passion, you can find something that even you can probably put participate from home.
Charisma - Charisma’s Care Coaching (08:55):
Yeah. So, you know, that's one of the things that I really focused on our lights are focused on getting people to start dreaming, start thinking about those things. Again, it doesn't matter how old you are. It doesn't matter what your situation is. There's always a way that we can kind of work around those situations. And we're going to talk about that next week, you know, because it's a lot of things that make us say no as caregivers, but there's ways that we can work around those. So really start dreaming. You know, let's, let's kind of put our laundry list to the side of the things that we have to do because yes, we do have to pick up the medications. We have to go to the doctor, you know, the money. That's always a factor or lack thereof because you know, we're not all working or we're working part time or, you know, there's just different things that affect that the time and the energy, your health, uh, just having a decent person there that can help you, you know, so you can get away.

So those are things that, you know, we'll talk about, but right now let's just dream, you know, because it's, so children dream all the time, they have the biggest dreams, right? When you were a child, you had all of these dreams, all these things you wanted to do. But then as an adult, people don't dream. People ask me, charisma, how do you go hiking? And I'm like, I don't, I don't understand the question. You know, because it's something that I found during the pandemic that I wanted to do. I was losing my mind in the house. Right. And a friend said, we should go hiking, mess it. What?
Charisma - Charisma’s Care Coaching (10:33):
I didn't hear you. Right. And she said, yeah. I said, well, I guess we can try it. And you know, I went with her because I had nothing else to do in the middle of a pandemic. And I fell in love with it. I found that I love hiking and I have hiked every weekend ever since. Wow. Understand my family knows. Yeah. They know that on Saturday, I need about an hour to two hours first thing in the morning because I'm going hiking. That's the only time I need is that time. And we found a way to carve it out, you know, before my daughter goes to work, we carve out that little time. And that is just my me-time. And sometimes if I don't have a sitter, I take my son, me the wheelchair now, and my son go right up there, right up a mountain that is wheelchair accessible that I can hike. Okay.

Awesome. Yeah. And I think the, uh, another good point there is we need to not be scared to try new things because had you not tried that you may not have found your love for that. And if we're physically able to get out and do things, uh, try some new stuff. That's that that'd be something good. We'll try some new things,

Try something new. Maybe if you can't go out with the friend that asks you to do something, maybe even ask them to come over, make sure to have a COVID test. [inaudible], you know, maybe even have that cup of coffee on zoom.

Yup. You can make it happen. All right, charisma. Well, we appreciate you again. Uh, so let's kind of put this together. Our first episode, we talked about, uh, why pursue your happiness and who you are. The second one we talked about, you know, some goals and then this third one, we've talked about visualization and you know, I'm going to tell you never too old to dream. I still dream. I still have a lot of things I want to accomplish. Some of my dreams may be a little out of my reach. I, I realized that, but you know, it's still, it's fun to think about, you know, what we can do with our life if we really want to. So, uh, anyway, next week, we're going to talk about, uh, the dreams, the reality of, I guess, achieving our dreams. Is that correct?

And we found a way to carve it out, you know, before my daughter goes to work, we carve out that little time. And that is just my me-time. And sometimes if I don't have a sitter, I take my son, me the wheelchair now, and my son go right up there, right up a mountain that is wheelchair accessible that I can hike. Okay.

Awesome. Yeah. And I think the, uh, another good point there is we need to not be scared to try new things because had you not tried that you may not have found your love for that. The second one we talked about, you know, some goals and then this third one, we've talked about visualization and you know, I'm going to tell you never too old to dream. I still dream. I still have a lot of things I want to accomplish. Some of my dreams may be a little out of my reach. I, I realized that, but you know, it's still, it's fun to think about, you know, what we can do with our life if we really want to. So, uh, anyway, next week, we're going to talk about, uh, the dreams, the reality of, I guess, achieving our dreams. Is that correct?
