  • Saturday Musical Mix With The Love Doctor
    IMPERFECTION
From birth we are bombarded with images,
Magazines with the perfect bodies on pages.
Flickering screens with thespians so lovely,
None wants to be identified as ugly.
Society has it's accepted high bars,
Slim and trim or sexy and curvy are stars.
Too thin or too fat brings you whispers,
Women so fast to forget the bond of sisters.
Mean comments fly on social media,
Soon as that picture goes up of Felicia.
Never mind the person who is depicted,
Or how this may get them heavily conflicted.
So many derogatory comments fly free,
So many perfect onlookers sipping tea.
Somebody somewhere looks in a mirror,
"That looks just like me..." is their thought in horror.
How many must go through this ignominy?
When do we learn to love others in true harmony?
    Pontiak

  • Ska Now and Then the connections
Not only in Jamaica, but all the West Indies, the relationship between music and sports is an unbreakable bond. When the West Indies cricket team was flying high during the 60s and 70s, the calypsonians sang about the success of the team and of the stars of the team. In the islands, every young boy playing in the back yard or on the beach would assume the name of his favorite cricket player. Many players of the national team were more recognised that the heads of government, and yet most of them found it difficult to support their families. Host Freddie Campbell will express his feelings about the symbiotic relationship of sports and music and welcomes the opinions of his listeners.

  • MINIMUM WAGE HURTS-PART 2 - Joseph L. Patterson- WEATHER PERMITTING-
Our Broadcast this Sunday comes from Daytona Beach Florida and so will Depend on the track of Hurricane IRMA
So far, we have heard arguments in favour of the Minimum Wage that are all based on our care for our fellow humans. No one had a rational reason or moral justification for why and how government should dictate the price of a person's time. However, we are all concerned about the obvious low wages, relative to the cost of living, that most Jamaicans are paid.
It is also clear that while some big banks and companies are doing very well, most of us are doing poorly financially. Something must be done, but what? Should we "hire" the government to force all businesses to pay higher wages? Should we increase taxes on the rich and give this money to the poor? Or should we set price controls on the goods and services to lower them for all consumers? These are all nice sounding politically correct statements, but they are suicidal economically. All tried and failed and tried again under various governments in and outside Jamaica. And these actions are all immoral and mentally degenerative.
This kind of thinking and these kinds of policies have made many nations poor and are pulling down rich nation's today (over time of course). The UIC has a new, moral and economically logical way; a system that will transform Jamaica into a nation of wealthy ordinary citizens within 5 years. And it's based on two phrases - individual liberty and personal responsibility. It is so simple and yet so complex. Unlike many developed nations that are sinking, we are well suited to chart this new course because we are close to rock bottom and ready for a fresh start. More on Sunday.
