I make that big guarantee service, remember our workshop together, I’d make that big guarantee, okay. I’d really look at my business model, I’d wanna do the things I’ve always thinking of doing but we just never had the chance or never thought we have the chance to do it, right. Here’s a thing you don’t want to happen to you, I’ll use the restaurant as an example. So I go to my favorite restaurant. I'm there on Saturday night, haven’t seen them in a while, so happy to get out, family’s out and I ordered my favorite dish. I order it every single time they always have it but not this night. On this night they didn't have the dish that I came for. So imagine being the steak restaurant and there’s no steak that was me! I'm the vegan, right? But I wanted my veggie burger; they didn’t have it. I wanted may gluten free bun, they didn't have it, I wanted may A1 steak sauce, they didn’t have it, why didn't they have it? You know what I don’t care why they didn’t have it. I haven't been here in months, it’s not my job to figure it out, you have your steak sauce and the right bun and the veggie patty so I can have my veggie burger. You don’t want to be the company that can’t fulfill an order when the world goes back to work fully. Now there’s a hundred good reasons why you can’t do it, supply chain this, shortage of wheat there, I get it hundred reasons why you can’t do it and no one would blame you but it will put you in a compromise position going forward.

Here's your challenge among all the other challenges, your clientele is thinking that for the last 13 months you have been sitting back strategizing Thomas Edison trying you know to figure out and invent the next best way for customer service. The next best way to get them a product, the next best way to fix your supply chain. They are thinking that when the world fully opens back up and the supply chain is out there and we all can get together again, they’re gonna think that you have been sitting around, strategizing and the entire--and planning the entire time. So COVID as I mention all it did was put a magnifying glass on what you do, COVID is not your problem, think like a restaurant, COVID is not your problem. Your problem is, your bigger problem is meeting the spike in demand when the world is fully back open for you.

We now need to build the plan that separates us from--we need to separate us from the--from the rest. Now what did COVID tell us? It told us what our customers really want and what our customers are really afraid of and they told us what we want going forward and I don’t wanna put to--I don’t wanna put to find a point on this but I tell you know--I’m--from experience, from all the companies we’re working on, right. We went to our customers right away and we told them this, you need to get open, I don’t care what it takes. You need to get open and you need to stay open because in all pandemics, all through history, the ones that emerges successful are the ones that remain opened and demonstrated a commitment to their community, whatever community that was that they were committed to serving them, no matter what.

Wouldn't you know the mattress company had their best year ever last year and they are on pace for breaking that record this year and even though they can have a full show room, they have stuck with the private shopping experience. Now think about it for a second, who makes an appointment to go get a mattress? A tire kicker or someone who’s pretty serious. Their close rate went to over 90%, who makes an appointment for a mattress? Somebody’s buying a mattress not somebody’s shopping for a mattress. You shop online, you buy in the store, so they confronted their greatest fear, right, okay? And so we made a radical shift. So as part of your breakthrough, what’s the radical shift you need to make? Okay. In my business I had to start putting out, outbound digital material is not something that our business was really built on, it wasn’t our approach and I’m like ahmmm do I really wanna do this, okay. The answer is no, I don’t wanna do it but that’s what my clients are all asking for, what are your clientele asking for?

So last year in April we have a--we have a factory direct mattress manufacturer and retailer built in the back showroom in the front. Ron says to me “we can only have 10 people in the whole show room even if I send everybody from the manufacture--factory home, I still have to have 3 people in the showroom, that means I can only have 7potential clients in the showroom in any given time I might just close--I might just close” so I said “Ron, before we do that--before we do that, okay? What are people always asking you for or what are they complimented you for?” Let’s look at your reviews, let’s look at the feedback you're getting on social media, your surveys, what are they saying they really love? And it was the shopping experience, low-pressure shopping experience. I said “now this gonna sound a little crazy Ron, but here’s what we’re gonna do, we’re gonna lower the capacity of your showroom down even further” and they said--he said “why why why why why would we do that--why would we do that? I said here’s what we’re gonna do,  but we’re gonna rename it, what are people really asking for? They’re asking for a VIP shopping experience.

Amazon, Chevrolet, what do they say they're going to be by 2030-2025? Carbon free--carbon free, okay? Chevrolet made a big announcement they said “we are shutting down a couple of our normal--normally aspirated engine driven cars in favor for electric cars” and they have the entire platform to do that--that’s radical, they signal to the market we are making a change, okay? Cause I’ve got news for you, we have done business in 68 countries. We have clients in 35, we’re actively working in 15 countries right now. What I’m here to tell you in every country we work in is that the request of your clientele during the pandemic will be permanent request, they are not temporary. You will have a hybrid office, you will have remote workers, I’ll come back to that one, okay? You will need to use more technology, if you’re asking you now for off peak, off hours distribution delivery times or install times or assembly times, that’s gonna continue.

Now our third step, our third step is the breakthrough. Where have we been so far, we’ve--what was the breakdown, what was the trigger event that led us there? What was the vulnerability that left us open to that and then let’s take inventory. Okay we weathered the breakdown now we took inventory of the assets we have to go forward now we need to start moving forward, we need to take action. So a breakthrough is--a breakthrough is something where you question, you assets, your rules, beliefs, values, business system, leadership strategy, management approach and we want it--we need to take a radical shift, we need to make a radical pivot in what we’re doing to signal to ourselves, to our management team, to our clients that we are making a pivot. There needs to be a radical announcement.

We should have been prepared for something--something to come our way, some world tougher, that we’re gonna have to deal with. The other thing that is--the other thing that is a pattern in winter is that there are two corrections usually the second correction is bigger than the first. The first one was the global financial crisis in 2008-2009, okay? And now the one that we’re in right now. So these are patterns that we need to deal with. Now the beauty of winter is that people differ to authority or experts in times of volatility, so what is left of my assets that I can use to come back and become an authority and expert in my field, okay? In the area--so what do I use to come back, what personnel, what dollars do I have, what credit, what good will, what brand do I have that I can use in order to mount my comeback? So let’s think about that.

There’s a great book out there called the fourth turning and the fourth turning talks about the cycles of society. In every 20 to 25 years we go through another cycle, four of them are what they called a siculum and they’ve nicknamed them like diseases. There’s a spring, there’s a summer, there’s a fall and there’s a winter. We happen to be in winter, we entered winter in 2005 and it is estimated that we will go through 2029 in winter and what is historic about winter in this book it tracks the cycle back 500 years and tracks these patterns and it’s very very predictable here’s two thing you should know in every winter, every 80 years or so there was a world conflict. What was 80 years back from what we're going through now, world war 2, go back 80 years from that, what did you get? Revolutionary--civil war sorry--civil war go back 80 years from that, what did you get? okay? You start working your way back 80 years you’re gonna see what was considered to be a world conflict. The pandemic is our world conflict, comes around every 80 years like clockwork--like clockwork.
