The Coach is the "You are Here Button"
Hi everyone, Carl Gould here with your #70secondCEO. Just a little over a one minute investment every day for a lifetime of results.
Is the year button on the map, right? I can tell where are you. I'm at the mall. Thank you. I could have done that. That was easy enough. But I need the you are here button and that's what a coach does. That's what an expert does. That's what a trainer does. That person will help you figure out where are you right now. Like right now? Okay. Right. So in order to do that, though, we have to go through a little bit of a transformation ourselves, right? Now remember, I've trained over 7,000 of you. So here's what I've learned. Many of you are here to heal yourself first, before healing others. Fair? Okay. So we need to go first. Coaching is one of the hardest skills to learn because there are a number of reasons for it. We break it down into four disciplines, consulting, mentoring, advising, and coaching. Consulting, which is what most of you do, you call it coaching, but it's really consulting. That's great. You diagnose the problem, fix the problem, and work with them hand in hand to fix the problem. Then there's the advisor. The advisor is somebody who doesn't do all that much but organizes everything so it gets done. A mentor is somebody that just says, Listen, follow my footsteps. I can tell you that worked for me. I got all my hands and feet. I can tell you that it works, okay? If you take any other steps in the sand, all bets are off. I don't know if that works but I can tell you if you walk in my footsteps, I made it through pretty well and so your experience sharing.
