HOST:
What's up, everybody! Welcome to If I Compute, I'm Not a Computer β the podcast where we talk about people, brains, technology, and what makes us human!
Today's message is simple: A human being is not a machine!
Let's get into it!
[SEGMENT 1 β WHAT DOES HUMAN COMPUTER MEAN?]
HOST:
Now, let's talk about the phrase human computer.
Did you know that people historically used the word computer to describe someone who performed mathematical calculations?
One famous example is Katherine Johnson, the mathematician whose calculations helped NASA with spaceflight missions.
She was a real person with knowledge, skills, and experience. The word computer described the work she did β it did not mean she was a machine!
People can solve problems, learn new things, and perform calculations. But people are human beings, with their own lives, thoughts, feelings, and experiences.
[SEGMENT 2 β WHAT IF SOMEONE DISAGREES?]
HOST:
Now, suppose Carla Holmes says, "There's no such thing as a human computer."
How do we respond?
We don't argue. We don't insult anybody. We simply explain what we mean!
We can say:
"Carla, I understand your point. A human being isn't literally a computer. However, human computer has historically been used to describe a person who performs calculations. That's the difference between a historical job description and what a person actually is."
And if somebody disagrees with our wording, that's okay. We can listen, learn, and explain our ideas respectfully.
No name-calling. No arguments. Just a calm conversation!
[SEGMENT 3 β MY MESSAGE]
HOST:
Here's the message I want everyone to remember:
I can compute, but I'm not a computer.
I can think about numbers. I can learn mathematics. I can solve problems. I can use technology.
But I'm a human being!
A computer is a machine. A person is a person.
We can use computers to help us learn, but we should never forget the difference between a person and a piece of technology.
And remember, everybody: it's okay to have different opinions. Respect goes a long way!
[SEGMENT 4 β CLEAN RADIO REMINDER]
HOST:
This podcast is keeping it clean!
No cursing. No insults. No threats. If an accidental inappropriate word slips into a recording, the editor can mute it or insert a short [BLEEP] before the episode is released.
But the best radio edit is one where we choose respectful words from the very beginning!

You've been listening to If I Compute, I'm Not a Computer.
Think clearly. Speak respectfully. Keep it clean.
I'm not a machine. I'm a human being β and that's the message!
Thanks for listening. Catch you next time!
