Carmela De Vargas was arrested due to a violation of her parole. For 2 months she was incarcerated in Santa Fe county jail. On November 9, 2019 Carmela died as result of failure at the Santa Fe County Detention Center to afford her the necessary medical treatment to save her life. Carmela was not the only individual who passed away from sepsis related infections. Carmela's family had created a petition to start an investigation within the prison regarding this issue.
