Paul tells the Church in Corinth they were not taking advantage of the Spirit of God ​H​e had been given to them​. He calls them Babes in Christ because they are behaving like normal humans, rather than ​people endowed with the power of the Holy Spirit. the spiritual people God wants them to be. He then moves to the responsibility of the leadership in Corinth​. He tells them to build the body on the foundation Paul laid—Jesus the Messiah! Jesus, alone, is the sole foundation of the church, ​a​nd they need to be careful to build on that foundation​ with eternal values, rather than human values, converting their boasting away from men and toward God alone.

Their jealousy, strife, and division demonstrates a carnality that is keeping them as spiritual babies. While everyone starts out as a baby, we certainly do not want to stay there. The goal is to be mature, grown up believer​s who ​h​ave allowed the Spirit of God to make them useful ambassadors for the Kingdom of God.
