The Joy Poet
Europe is dying 1993
The old man harbours his memories
Violins swimming, swirling through his ears
As the earth is swallowed up by the sea
Vienna is drowning now!
Oh! Vienna is drowning now!
Amber clouds burst and split the blackened skies
The old man wakes and he writes
His ink well has spanned ten thousand summer nights
Now all the river's are running wild
Oh! the earths a raging fireball and the devils gonna stoke it
Burning down, down, down, down
No~one's seen, no~one's told the Joy Poet he's drowning
Going down, down, down, down
Beaches and wastegrounds washed by poisoned seas
The old man lives without machines
He has no wireless, he has no tv
He cannot hear the frightened trees
Oh! the earths a raging fireball and the devils gonna stoke it
Burning down, down, down, down
No~one's seen, no~one's told the Joy Poet he's drowning
Going down, down, down, down
Oh! the earths a raging fireball and the devils gonna stoke it
Burning down, down, down, down
No~one's seen, no~one's told the Joy Poet he's drowning
Going down, down, down, down
Burning down, down, down, down
Going down, down, down, down
Burning down, down, down, down
Lyrics: Stevenson (Dec 1990)
Music: Bellis/Stevenson (Dec 1990)
A song about about an old reclusive Austrian Poet who writes poems about the beauty in the world. But the poet has been cut off from society for so long he doesnt realise the world is dying around him from global warming and all the harm man has done to the planet.
