  • The Signs Surrounding Christ's Death

When Jesus died, creation itself testified to who He was. The Bible records supernatural signs around the cross that no natural explanation can account for.

Key Verse: "Now when the centurion, and they that were with him, watching Jesus, saw the earthquake, and those things that were done, they feared greatly, saying, Truly this was the Son of God." - Matthew 27:54 (KJV)

Darkness covered the land for three hours at midday during Passover, when a full moon makes a solar eclipse impossible. At three o'clock, when the Passover lambs were being slain, Christ bowed His head, and the veil of the temple was torn from top to bottom. The earth shook, the rocks split, and graves were opened. In this message from The Road to Calvary, Pastor Marc Williamson walks through these signs and what each one tells us about the One who died there.

The centurion saw the signs and confessed, "Truly this was the Son of God." Thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

  • His Suffering, Our Salvation

In this message from Matthew 27:26, we revisit the suffering of Christ on the road to Calvary. Before Jesus was crucified, He was scourged, mocked by Roman soldiers, clothed in a scarlet robe, crowned with thorns, and led away to die. Yet none of this happened apart from the will of God. Christ willingly endured every blow, every insult, and every sorrow so that sinners could be redeemed.

This sermon highlights the chastisement of the Roman scourge, the scornful coronation of Christ, and the saving purpose of His crucifixion. It also points to the deeper meaning of His suffering: He bore the curse, carried our sin, endured rejection, and drank the bitter cup of divine wrath so that we might have peace with God.

His suffering was not accidental. It was redemptive. His suffering was the means of our salvation.

  • The Peril of the Pretender

In this message, The Peril of the Pretender, we examine the life of Judas Iscariot as a sobering warning to all who profess faith in Christ. Though Judas walked with Jesus, served in ministry, and appeared to be a true disciple, he was never transformed on the inside.

This sermon highlights the danger of a false profession and calls for honest self-examination. It reveals key warning signs seen in Judas’ life, including a deceptive profession, a critical spirit toward others, misplaced love, and a gradual drift away from Christ.

Through this passage, we are reminded that outward activity and association with Christ are not enough—true salvation is marked by inward transformation, a love for Christ, and a life changed by the power of God.

  • Desiring Change

For thirty-eight years a man lay by the pool of Bethesda in the same miserable condition, watching others get what he wanted. Some of us can't imagine living with a hard situation for three months. Yet many believers have grown comfortable in a crippled spiritual condition and stopped expecting anything to change.

Key Verse: "When Jesus saw him lie, and knew that he had been now a long time in that case, he saith unto him, Wilt thou be made whole?" - John 5:6 (KJV)

In a crowd of sick people lying on the ground, Jesus saw this one man and asked him a searching question. In this message, Lakelan Williamson shows that Christ still notices the overlooked, and that when He speaks, His word has the power to accomplish what it commands. He asks whether we have heard the truth so often that we leave it on the pew, complaining about our condition while never truly desiring to change.

Hearing the truth is not the same as responding to it. What is Christ telling you to rise up and walk away from?

  • His Bitter Cup, Our Blessed Cup

In Matthew 26:36–46, we are brought into the Garden of Gethsemane—a place of deep sorrow, intense prayer, and complete surrender. Here, Jesus faced the overwhelming reality of the cross as He anticipated bearing the sins of the world and drinking the cup of God’s wrath.

Though there was no struggle at His arrest or crucifixion, there was a great internal battle in the garden. In this sacred moment, Christ prayed three times, submitting His will fully to the Father: “Not as I will, but as thou wilt.”

This message highlights the depth of Christ’s suffering, the meaning of the cup in Scripture, and the victory He secured through prayer. Because Jesus drank the bitter cup of judgment, we are offered the blessed cup of redemption through His blood.

  • Empowered for the Mission

In fast-growing communities around Salt Lake City, there are towns of 21,000 people and more with no gospel-preaching church. That means thousands of people go about their lives without even a chance of meeting someone who could tell them how to be saved.

Key Verse: "But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth." - Acts 1:8 (KJV)

Matthew Bateman, missionary to Utah, shares how God saved him and called him into the ministry, and then preaches from the book of Acts on the gospel God has entrusted to His people. The early church was assembled and waiting on the Lord when the power came. They prayed, the Spirit empowered them, the Word was preached and persecution followed. He shows that the same pattern holds true for every church today, whether in Utah or in Spartanburg.

God has entrusted the gospel to us. Be found faithful in praying, preaching and pressing forward for the cause of Christ.
