This was a great episode. Ty Martin doesn't care what you think and if you're low on caffeine or need to run through a wall, he's your guy. Just spend a few minutes with him and see if you can keep from doing great things. We had a great time talking industry, entrepreneurism and competition!
It's not often in this business that you get to hold your college friends' feet to the fire, but that's exactly what I did today with Whiteside, my buddy from college. He's not in the bigtime running Ocean Isle Beach, NC town affairs and he's crushing it in every other way in life, too. Hear how town approaches decisions from the other side of the table and how they prioritize things.
My guest today was told one thing by his father growing up: 'Don't you ever get in this business.' He didn't listen — and eastern North Carolina is better for it. Walt Crayton is a third-generation New Bern developer whose grandfather founded Crayton & Company back in 1950. In 2008, Walt struck out on his own with Crayton Commercial, starting as a one-man shop and going on to build and revitalize shopping centers across the Carolinas — from Havelock to Fayetteville to Dillon, South Carolina. He's a UNC Chapel Hill grad, a former appointee to the North Carolina Real Estate Commission, and a guy who's made a career out of bringing retail back to the heart of small towns. Please welcome Walt Crayton.
Thanks for joining this episode with Chris Johnson, Director of Economic Development of Johnson County, NC. If you're wondering what goes into their incredible growth, you'll want to listen to every minute of this as he shares what makes his county and his program so special.
