While the rest of us were trying to stay safe at home during a global pandemic, nearly 100 City of Carson staff members got together in March 2020 to form the City of Carson COVID-19 Task Force to help get necessary services and supplies to the most vulnerable populations in our community. Their efforts and commitment to the City is why the Carson COVID-19 Task Force is the recipient of the 2022 Sai Momoli Civic Excellence Award. Supervisor Holly J. Mitchell was first elected to the 2nd District seat in 2020. Her win marked the first time that the LA County Board of Supervisors, one of the most powerful legislative groups in the country, was made up of all women. Prior to that she served in the State Legislature as both an Assemblymember and Senator where she has helped pass legislation to increase economic and racial equity, including the passage of the CROWN Act, which was the first law of its kind ever in the nation ending hair discrimination.
