January 25, 2022 Coffee Farming is a Volatile Business - SUSTAIN COFFEE
Dante was unable to come to the studio due to being exposed to COVID, but not to fear - he has tested negative and is feeling good! Yet, out of extra precaution we decided to let Joseph the reins for today.
This episode script has been inspired and somewhat dictated by us recently finishing a book titled The Broken Village written by Daniel R. Reichman, an Assistant Professor of Anthropology at the University of Rochester. The compact read follows the story of “a remote village of Honduras by the name of La Quebrada and how it transformed from a merely a coffee growing community to a hotbed of undocumented migration to and from the United States.” While this ethnographic story largely focuses on the topic of migration, it also has many sections that cover coffee topics.
Today’s episode could be viewed as a personal reflection of this chapter, and things that have been brought to the forefront of our mind.
