We walk with Jesus to the cross and celebrate the crucified conquering King.

Jesus prepares himself and his disciples (especially Peter) as he is anointed, initiates the Lord's Supper, prays at Gethsemane, goes to trial and is denied by Peter.

Jesus taught that we must live with expectancy that he will return. We are exhorted to wait and watch, persevering and standing firm until the end.

The authority of Jesus and his Supremacy in our lives are highlighted in giving to God what is God's (you), the Great Commandment, the rebuke of hypocrites and the widow's offering. Priorities and generosity will be themes.

At the beginning of Holy Week, the emptiness of religion and the power of faith/prayer are seen in the triumphal entry, clearing the temple and the withered fig tree (all leaves and no fruit).

Many things stand in the way of our acceptance/entrance into the Kingdom of God: selfishness (divorce), pride (little children), materialism (rich young ruler) and power seeking (James' and John's request).

The theme of humility is described in the transfiguration and future suffering of Jesus, prayer and power healing, the message that the 1st must be last, coming to God as children and dealing with sin.

Jesus is the source of life as revealed in the feeding of the 5000, the yeast of the Pharisees, Peter's confession and his predicted death. We are encouraged to take up our cross and follow Him.

Religion worries about the externals while God is concerned with our hearts. Whether we are clean or unclean is a matter of the heart, not of diet or behavior. Jesus follows power teaching with power healing of a Greek child and a deaf-mute.
